Japan, 21 September 1945. At the Kobe station, fourteen-year-old Seita dies of starvation. His ghost traces the tragic events of the last four months: the American bombings, the corpse of his mother disfigured by burns, his father defending the glory of the Empire in his white naval officer uniform, Seita and his little sister Setsuko alone against the world gone mad.
