Lightning McQueen and his long-time rivals, The King and the incorrect Chick, cross the finish line at the same time. They are therefore forced to a play-off which will be held in California. During the trip, however, the articulated lorry on which Saetta travels is attacked by criminal cars. Lightning ends up on Route 66, exceeds the speed limits and even damages the asphalt. He is thus arrested and then sentenced to repair the road. Meanwhile, he meets the lawyer Sally, a splendid Porsche. The two get engaged. Lightning repairs the road and grows fond of the inhabitants of Radiator Springs. But the Los Angeles race awaits him. Lightning has now changed, he is no longer full of himself and stubborn: along the way Chick commits yet another misconduct and Saetta lets him win to stop and help The King. "Cars 2" shifts the focus from the world of motors to that of international espionage. And here, the real protagonist of the tangled plot based on twists and turns, is Mater, a friend of Lightning McQueen and a great engine expert from Radiator Springs. Secret agent Finn McMissile is investigating an oil rig surrounding illegal car trafficking. Discovered, he is attacked but manages to escape making himself believe dead. Meanwhile, an oilman has decided to market an alternative fuel and to advertise it he organizes the first World Grand Prix in Japan in which, of course, Lightning McQueen will also participate (there is also an Italian driver). At the same time, Holly Shiftwell, an agent who works with McMissile, warns her colleague that she will soon receive a tip from an American spy.
