BilBOlbul. International comic festival
XNUMXth edition

from 4 to 7 March 2010 in Bologna

At the center of the Festival the authors and the dialogue between comics and other arts. Protagonists of the scene are the numerous national and international authors present at the Festival with their works, many of which are unpublished in Italy. BilBOlbul's strength is to rediscover and deepen through a large exhibition and thematic meetings, the work of a master of contemporary comics, not yet celebrated as it deserves, for linguistic innovations and expressive strength: this year's anthological exhibition is dedicated to the work of the French David B. great narrator and innovator of comics from beyond the Alps.

As in previous editions, the Festival will present visitors with a circuit of exhibitions set up in museums, art galleries, cultural clubs, libraries, which provide for the support and collaboration of local and international realities in a synergy of various quality proposals, while the centerpiece of the Festival will be Piazza Coperta di SalaBorsa, where it will be possible to meet the guest artists and, from the afternoon of Thursday 4 March, ask them for a personal dedication.

Also at the Archaeological Civic Museum will be set up an exhibition dedicated to Paolo Bacilieri and his imaginative world, through a reading key able to explore the style and themes of one of the greatest Italian authors. From France Emmanuel Guibert (at the Cineteca di Bologna) and Marc Boutavant (Sala d'Ercole in Palazzo d'Accursio), one author of The Photographer and of Alan's War, the other of Mouk, also co-authors of the adventures of the donkey Ariol, which has already become a cartoon broadcast on French television. Also from France Pierre La Police, illustrator and designer whose identity is shrouded in mystery, at the Galleria Stamperia d'Arte Squadro.

From Argentina the young Liniers, new strip phenomenon, published weekly in Italy on the pages of "Internazionale", who will create unpublished drawings for the exhibition at the Aemilia Hotel, while, again from the United States, but originally from Israel, Koren Shadmi , cartoonist and illustrator on the pages of the main American newspapers and magazines, who will exhibit his works at the PivArte Gallery, and, finally, Joanna Hellgren from Sweden, to whom an exhibition will be dedicated at the RAM Hotel gallery, where she will exhibit drawings and tables of his novels unpublished in our country.

In addition to the aforementioned Bacilieri, among the Italians to whom Bilbolbul dedicates an exhibition, Lorenzo Mattotti, with his landscape illustrations, Giacomo Monti, author of incisive short stories for narration and content, at the Nosadella Due Gallery, Marina Girardi, who will exhibit the tables of Kurden People, his first work, at the Feltrinelli Ravegnana bookshop, Marco Ficarra at the Istituto Storico Parri with an exhibition dedicated to Stalag XB, and Hannes Pasqualini, with tables and sketches from his first graphic novel Gietz, at Camera a Sud.

This year the "Around the Festival" section is very rich, with, among others, exhibitions by Andrea Bruno, Laura Camelli, Davide Zucco, Squaz, Arianna Vairo, the magazines Two Fast Color and GIUDA, Violetta Testacalda, the collective Art & Comics and Strane Dizioni (at the Zuni in Ferrara).

In line with previous editions, the promotional spaces for young artists are confirmed: once again this year the exhibition dedicated to the winners of the "The sound of Pixel" competition will be set up in the Auditorium of SalaBorsa, organized by bringing Flashfumetto.it, while the tables by Nancy Poltronieri and Cristina Portolano, first and second classified in the “Coop for Words” competition, will be exhibited at the bookstores. Coop Ambasciatori.

Finally, at the Sala d'Ercole in Palazzo d'Accursio, alongside the panels of Ariol created by Marco Boutavant, the exhibition dedicated to the competition “Ready, go! Journey to the center of the earth ”promoted by the Province of Bologna Department of Culture and Equal Opportunities and Emilbanca Credito Cooperativo. The competition involved more than a thousand children of elementary and middle schools in Bologna and the province who were asked to invent and elaborate a story in which they themselves are the protagonists, imagining a journey to a fantastic land with a means of transport invented by themselves.

The collaboration with the Cineteca di Bologna is confirmed, through a special program dedicated to the relationship between comics and cinema in its various forms, which will be announced shortly, as well as the meetings that will compare comic authors with journalists will be announced shortly, writers, critics, and who will focus on the themes of narrating Italy in comics and reportage, including family news, travel diary and metaphor.
