The Animation Department of the Experimental Center of Cinematography presents the 2005-2007 graduation films

Turin, Friday 30 May, 17.00 pm - Cinema Massimo - via Verdi, 18

The Experimental Center of Cinematography - Animation Department presents the graduation films made by the students of the three-year period 2005-2007. The CSC three-year course in animation cinema, established in 2001 in agreement with the Piedmont Region, based in Chieri, aims to train qualified artists and technicians to participate in the creative, design and production phases of the animated film . The courses are held by the best Italian and European animation professionals. The three-year training course develops along two lines of specialization: classical animation and 3D animation / visual effects, with ample space for experimenting with innovative techniques and styles.

The graduation films are produced by the Chieri school at the end of an articulated training course and to cultivate and express the creative potential of new generations of Italian animation.

The four animated shorts of 2007 are designed and created by graduates Marco Avoletta, Giulia Barbera, Omar Bianco, Elena Forcato, Jacopo Lanza, Gianluca Lo Presti, Nandini Nambiar, Marta Palazzo, Federico Parodi, Giuliano Poretti, Daniele Scali, Valerio Terranova , Michele Tozzi, Lorenzo Veracini and Silvia ZappalĂ : Babau, inspired by the suspended and dreamy atmospheres of Japanese fairy tales; The Naturalist, an ironic vision of the real effects of an uncontrollable love for nature; 'U Sciroccu, the satirical tale of the breaking of an ancient friendship between three old cutlery due to the arrival of an unexpected object; and A Bicycle Trip, the discovery of the effects of LSD by the famous chemist Albert Hofmann, already awarded with the Special Mention for Director at the 2008 Cartoons on the Bay festival.

From this year, the traditional graduation party becomes an opportunity for comparison with other animation film centers and schools. For this first meeting, three realities were invited whose experiences ideally suggest a complete training path from childhood to specialist degree: Iter - Center of Culture for Communication and Media of the City of Turin which for over twenty years has offered an important educational experience with its animation workshops for children; the Urbino State Art Institute "Scuola del Libro", the first and only in Italy to professionally offer animation to high school students, from which important authors such as Toccafondo and Catani have emerged; and the Animation Institut of the MOME "Moholy-Nagy" University of Budapest, founded in 1980 and today one of the most dynamic media and design training centers, which among its works presents the magnetic Life Line - nomination Golden Cartoon 2007 - and its young author, Tomek Ducki.

Alongside the public presentation of the students' works, a study session is planned at the Chieti headquarters of the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia. In fact, this meeting between different animation schools was born not only to make the works made known to a wide audience, but above all to encourage the exchange of experiences between young people involved in animation cinema, a profession that requires rigorous design and production discipline and at the same time to allow teachers, students and professionals a comparison on objectives, methods, training contents in an artistic and industrial sector in continuous evolution.

The day's program continues after the delivery of the diplomas with the screening of a selection of the works created by the Animation Department of the CSC between 2004 and 2007 and with the replicas of the films presented.

We thank the Piedmont Region for the decisive support to the Piedmontese headquarters of the Experimental Center of Cinematography, the CRT Foundation, the National Cinema Museum for the hospitality granted to Cinema Massimo and Mole Antonelliana.

The invitations for the screenings at 17.00 can be collected at the Cinema Massimo in the previous days, subject to availability of seats.

The films of the animation graduates of the Experimental Center of Cinematography, Piedmont Region

three-year period 2005-2007

A Bicycle Trip

by Lorenzo Veracini, Nandini Nambiar, Marco Avoletta

CSC 2008

Technique: 3D CGI animation and compositing - Duration: 4'6 "

Basel, April 19, 1943: chemist Dr. Albert Hofmann returns home by bicycle after a day of work in the laboratory: but his perception of reality becomes elusive, to the point of assuming the contours of a nightmare. The film is inspired by the real-life episode of the random synthesis of LSD and reconstructs, with a touch of humor, the first effects on its discoverer, transforming his journey along the streets of a quiet Swiss town into a psychedelic journey through memories of childhood and obsessions.

Special Mention of the International Jury at Cartoons on the Bay 2008 for the direction.

Boo-hoo

by Valerio Terranova, Giuliano Poretti, Silvia ZappalĂ , Omar Bianco

CSC 2008

Technique: 3D CGI animation - Duration: 3'34 "

Animation and music take us through the prairies and woods of an uncontaminated valley populated by different and unknown living species - babau, hosode, zaki, baku, yama - creatures dreamed of in a curious universe on the border between day and night. The film, inspired by characters and atmospheres of Japanese fairy tales, tells with direct simplicity the eternal miracle of birth in an imaginary eco-system.

The Naturalist

by Giulia Barbera, Gianluca Lo Presti, Federico Parodi, Michele Tozzi

CSC 2008

Technique: 2D animation, stop motion, model shooting from life

Duration: 4'30 "

The naturalist lives in the city. As soon as he can, he jumps into the car and runs into the countryside to relax among fields and hills, freeing himself in the uncontaminated nature in perfect harmony with all the wild animals called by the sound of his flute. But man's blind love for nature can become very dangerous ... for other living beings.

'U Sciroccu

by Marta Palazzo, Daniele Scali, Jacopo Lanza

CSC 2008

Technique: 2D animation - Duration: 5'50 "

Three women and three different lives: Nuccia, Benita and Cetta live in the same house on the edge of a small village in southern Italy. With the passing of the years, the three protagonists share places and habits in a reassuring partnership. But one day everyday life is overwhelmed by the mysterious and sudden appearance of a pair of men's underwear among their underwear hanging out in the sun. It is a day of sirocco: storm is announced.
