ROMICS - FESTIVAL OF CARTOON AND ANIMATION

CINEMA AND COMIC STRIP
To celebrate the Rome Film Festival, Romics dedicates the heart of its cultural program to Cinema and Comics: the drawn heroes come to life on the big screen.
A rich program of screenings, conferences, debates, guests and special events to deepen the inseparable relationship between the languages ​​of cinema and comics.

THE GOLDEN ROMICS
As usual, great masters of international comics will be guests of the event and awarded with the Romics D'Oro which is awarded on Sunday during the Award Ceremony in the Sala Colonna del Palafiera, which on this occasion sees its 1.700 seats packed.
Among the 2006 Golden Romics: Silver, the creator of Lupo Alberto. The other Romics D'Oro guests will be announced soon

THE UNIVERSITY OF CARTOON
Meetings with major national and international guests; round tables and conferences on comics and animated cinema linked to current issues and to the Italian and international publishing and production reality; lectures on the history of comics and animation given by scholars and academics; lessons on the technique and language of comics; meetings with the main Italian comic book publishers who will present future editorial programs.

PREVIEWS AND SCREENINGS
As every year Romics hosts important film premieres: in September on this site the complete program.
This year, Aspettando I Castelli Animati joins the usual panorama of the news in world and in particular Japanese animation: a rich review of the best animated short films made in recent years by Castelli Animati.


THE BOOK COMPETITION
The Romics Comic Book Competition, in which the major Italian publishing houses participate, presents an exhaustive overview of the most recent and relevant comic books in Italy.
The Selection Committee, made up of Sergio Brancato, Stefano Cristante and Gino Frezza, will choose 16 finalists from among all the books entered.
The Jury of the Competition, composed of Alberto Abruzzese, Daniele Barbieri and Orio Caldiron will then choose, among the finalists, the best book of the Anglo-American, European, Japanese, South American school, and will award the Romics Grand Prix. It will also have a Special Jury Prize available.
The award ceremony will be held on Sunday 8 October in the Sala Colonna of the Palafiera.

"CANDY CANDY DAY"
Great news for this edition of Romics: Candy candy Day, a dutiful and affectionate tribute to celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of the creation of Candy Candy, the protagonist of the animated series produced by TOEI Animation in 1976, as well as the comics that have marked two entire generations of boys in Japan, in Italy, as well as in the rest of the world.
Romics dedicates an exclusive space to Candy Candy with a special event full of guests and initiatives: a Cosplay totally dedicated to Candy Candy and the other characters in its history; the contest Invent your own ending for Candy Candy, in which you can suggest an alternative ending to the one seen in the Manga and the Anime.

THE EXHIBITIONS
At Romics 2006 there will be the official conclusion of two competitions promoted by the Province of Rome and intended for high school students and children up to 18 years, who have created comics related to the theme of road safety and solidarity with the populations of Cuba and Rwanda, with the Cartoon Music Aid project. Two important exhibitions will be organized with the best drawings made by the children and the culminating event will be the awarding of the winners of the two competitions, with the participation of the testimonials involved. This event will be an opportunity to launch the next edition of the Cartoon Music Aid competition
Furthermore, the exhibition will be organized with the Originals specially chosen by the authors Romics D'Oro 2006.

ENTERTAINMENT AREA
Romics provides a large play area, always full of initiatives with tournaments, role-playing games, video games, presentations of numerous industry news, which every year attract the attention and presence of a large audience of young people and families.

KIDS AREA
A special area dedicated to children and teenagers, with equipped spaces, entertainment and projections.

THE COSPLAY PARADE
The Cosplay Parade, in which fans create and wear the dress of their favorite character, has become the annual event of the sector that attracts hundreds of Cosplayers from all over Italy. The event is organized in collaboration with Japanese TV Aichi Television of Nagoya, which organizes the World Cosplay Summit. At the Romics Cosplay parade the Italian representatives are selected for this event, which is held every year in Nagoya and is the great world cosplay competition. In 2005 the 3 Italian Cosplayers selected at Romics won the WCS world title. Also this year the Italian representatives perform in Nagoya in August. Romics' next Cosplay will be the launch pad for WCS 2007.

THE DOUBLE GALA
The Gran Gala of dubbing, with the Romics Dd Prize awarded each year to the best voices of Italian dubbing, which involves and awards the major protagonists of the Italian dubbing of films, TV series and animated films; the past few years has seen, among others, the participation of Luca Ward (The Gladiator), Francesco Vairano (dubbing director of The Lord of the Rings trilogy). Great news of the last edition is the conferral of the Ferruccio Amendola Prize awarded by Rita Savagnone and the family of the great actor and voice actor.
