Coco wins the Golden Globe for animation

Coco the Disney Pixar animated film

Pixar Animation Studios' animated film Coco was named the Golden Globe winner for Best Animated Film at the 7th annual awards ceremony in Los Angeles on Sunday, January 75. The awards ceremony marked Pixar studio's eighth win and 10th went to Disney studios since the category was introduced in 2006/7. Accepting the award, Lee Unkrich thanked "the incredible people of Mexico and their wonderful traditions of the Día de Muertos", Coco is in fact a magical and full of music hymn to Mexican traditions.

Directed by Lee Unkrich ( Toy Story 3 , Finding Nemo ), co-directed / written by Adrian Molina ( Arlo's journey, Monsters University ) and produced by Darla K. Anderson ( Toy Story 3 , Cars ) Coco tells the story of a 12-year-old boy who embarks on an incredible journey to the land of the dead to discover the truth about his family's ban on playing music. For the awards Coco was competing with the popular DreamWorks family comedy, Baby Boss , Ferdinand Fox / Blue Sky's and independent films The Breadwinner e Loving Vincent .

The Golden Globe for last year's animated film went to Zootopia of Disney Animation Studios.

Fans of the VFX artistry special effects (and great direction in general) were excited to see Guillermo del Toro win the Best Director - Motion Picture Award for his romantic interpretation of the B-Movie monsters The shape of water , beating Steven Spielberg ( The Post ), Ridley Scott ( All the money in the world ), Christopher Nolan ( Dunkirk ) and Martin McDonagh ( Three posters in Ebbing, Missouri ). The Best Motion Picture - The Drama award, for which Shape was also nominated, went to Three posters in Ebbing, Missouri.

For the second consecutive year, the animated film moved into the Original Song category despite filling most of the slot candidates - "This Is Me" by The Greatest Showman won "Home" (Ferdinand), "Remember me"( Coco ) is "The Star"( The heroes of Christmas ) as well as "Mighty River" from the live action movie Mudbound. Alexandre Desplat won the prize for the original work on The Shape of Water.

The winning team of Coco, during the press conference was asked to address the issue regarding the alleged allegations of harassment that were rumored about Pixar. Anderson commented that the study "observed many things as safely as possible with the greatest possible integrity." Unkrich added: "We can all be better. We are taking action and continuing to move forward to create art."
