Despicable record for Despicable Me 3 in the USA

With this weekend's $ 26,5 million worldwide box office, Despicable Me 3 reached $ 879,5 million. Adding that amount to the earnings of the three previous films in the series - Despicable Me 1 & 2 along with the Minions movie, these Illumination characters have grossed a record $ 3,55 billion worldwide. The previous record film Shrek, had earned $ 3,51 billion on 5 sequel films (including the spinoff il Cat with boots).

In the United States, the animated film Despicable Me 3 grossed $ 188,4 million over three weekends (as much as the total takings of Boss Baby , amounting to 174,2 million dollars). Despicable Me's record probably won't be beaten easily, as the sequel of Minions is slated for 2020. The first Minions grossed $ 1,16 billion, the second highest grossing for an animated sequel.

As for Despicable Me 3 it is still in cinemas all over the world and in many countries, as in Italy it has not yet been screened. In America the film has surpassed Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 this weekend to become the third highest grossing global of 2017, behind only The beauty and the Beast .
