Ukraine is preparing to take its place in the global animated film market. L'Animagrad Studio, a subsidiary of Film.UA, presented the online preview of the animated film in mid-July 2017 "Mavka, The Forest Song"(in Italian" Mavka, the song of the forest "), an animated character in 3D CGI computer graphics who will debut at the cinema in 2019.
The teaser, which first screened in June 2017 ad Annecy, was launched last week at fancy-looking party, in Ukraine, as part of the International Festival of Odessa film.
Mavka is a Ukrainian mythological figure, a girl with long, green hair who attracts young people to the woods and tickles them to death.
It is not yet clear how the film will be faithful to mythology, but the story is about the forbidden love between Mavka, a magical nymph from Sylvan, charged with protecting the health of the forest, and Lukash, a boy gifted with great musical talent.
The producer of the film Irina Kostyuk declares that "Our teaser is more about the environment than the story. Its goal is to immerse the audience in the world of the enchanted forest of Mavka, so that viewers meet the protagonist, to show her magical connection with nature and demonstrate the Mavka willow.".
The producers said the project will be deeply rooted in the Ukrainian tradition. The teaser uses a Vesnianky (a folk song that recalls spring) performed by the folk group Dakha Brakha and the film uses Ukrainian motifs and symbols of design, including traditional shirts embroidered with vyshyvanka and Easter eggs decorated with the name pysanky.

Last March, Mavka became the first Ukrainian project, selected for the move to Cartoon Movie in France.
Animagrad, is a Ukrainian animation studio founded in 2012 and is currently finishing its first CG function, The Stolen Princess , which will be released in March 2018. This film has been pre-sold in over 20 territories across Europe, China and South Korea.
