World preview of "The Breadwinner" at the Toronto cartoons show

"The Breadwinner" by Nora Twomey will have its world premiere in September 2017, at the cartoons fair within the Toronto International Film Festival.

The Breadwinner is based on the novel of the same name by Deborah Ellis, which tells the story of Parvana, a young girl who lives under the Taliban regime in Afghanistan and who, after her father's imprisonment, disguises herself as a boy to become the "breadwinner" or the family sustainer, the one who brings bread. Ellis drew the storyboard and Anita Doron handed in the script.

the film Breadwinner was born in Kilkenny thanks to a co-production between Ireland-Canada-Luxembourg, with the further involvement of Canadian Aircraft Pictures, Guru Studio and Melusine Productions of Luxembourg. GKIDS will be the distributor for the United States. The film also marks the debut of GKIDS, to finance the production of an animated film.

The latest Cartoon Saloon movie, Song of the Sea by Tomm Moore, also had its world premiere in Toronto. The film, as well as the first production The Secret of Kellsare both candidates for Academy Awards.
