Toei Animation has officially announced the twentieth film of its famous character Dragon Ball, during the Jump Fest, a Japanese festival dedicated to anime and manga. The latest film will have as its theme the increasingly destructive myth of the ultra-powerful "Super Saiyan" and its release in Japanese cinemas is scheduled for December 2018. Akira Toriyama, author of the original manga comic will write lyrics, script and character construction.
The official press release says:
"Since 1986, the series has introduced many memorable and beloved characters to countless diehard fans. The past few years have seen a new wave with the resurgence of the Dragon Ball series. Dragon Ball Z: The battle of the Gods , released in 2013, was a welcome return to the big screen for the first time in 17 years. Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F 2015 was followed with more success. Since that time, Dragon Ball has continued to further expand its world; leading to the current TV series Dragon Ball Super .
The theme of this extraordinary new film will be the Saiyans, the strongest race in the universe. From Battle of the Gods , Goku has undergone new forms: since Super Saiyan God al super saiyan blue to other evolved forms that have clashed with many invincible warriors from multiple universes. This new story will focus on the origin of Saiyan strength and what it means to be Saiyan. "
