The cartoon Balatack (original title Chojin sentai Balatack) was produced by Toei Animation in 1978 for a total of 31 episodes. In Italy it was known through the various local broadcasters.
The scientist Professor Kato, after a series of studies, has completed the project for the construction of the time machine. He is contacted by the aliens Shayzak, who come from planet Y, in order to develop a collaboration between the two planets. The mission is entrusted to Goldeus, who however has no peaceful intentions, as he wants to take over the project to dominate the Earth. Goldeus manages to kidnap the scientist's wife and son, to ask for the project in exchange, but Professor Kato does not give up and contemplates revenge. On a mountain he builds the scientific base of Balatack, equipped with sophisticated security systems and forms the Balatack team, a team of 5 good guys, among whom also Yuji, the professor's son.
Yuji is a boy who plays American football and like his other companions is endowed with the ESP powers of telepathy, and is ready to do anything to snatch his mother and brother from the hands of the Shayzaks. The other members of the Balatack team are the beautiful and sweet Yuri, Franco the youngest and prankster of the group, Mack a long-haired boy, very intelligent and responsible and finally the short-tempered and strong Diky. Each member of the group is equipped with a spacecraft, which joining together form the giant spaceship Pentagunus, thanks to which they are able to command the robot Balatack with their ESP powers, which thus exits from a tower of the lake, near the scientific base. The Shayzak aliens attack a baseball stadium, creating panic and havoc among players and spectators. Balatack, led by the 5 boys intervenes and fights with the alien robosaurus, but another monster freezes the players and kidnaps them.
Yuji decides to temporarily leave the group, to look for his mother and brother, but this greatly weakens the Balatack and his friends, so he is severely scolded by his father who brings him back into the ranks. The Balatack can thus arrange the transformation of the tank, which defeats the robosaur and frees the players. Balatack instead of the right arm is equipped with a huge drill that can also launch as an armor-piercing missile. It emits a devastating typhoon that blows from its mouth and can discharge a powerful beam of energy from the horns placed on its head. From his left arm he can extract a powerful club, capable of destroying his enemies which, depending on the case, can also turn into a gigantic pincer. Balatack being a modular robot, controlled with the power of thought of the 5 boys, it can take on different conformations: Drill for underground battles, Tank for fighting on land and Amphibious for those on the sea. The alien monsters come from the base of the Shayzak, located on a remote island in the ocean and have the appearance of large dinosaurs or giant insects. The only Ypsilonian officer who understands Goldius' madness is Julius, an army officer who supports Emperor Shayden, who had plans for peaceful collaboration with the Terrans. In all the episodes the importance of the collaboration of all the team members is highlighted, in order to defeat the enemy.
This is in order to pass the value of sacrifice for others and humility, as opposed to the presumption of thinking of being able to solve situations individually, in fact every time the team separates it is destined to succumb. The Balatack series has been the driving force for merchandising related to the sale of toys and gadgets.
