The story is set in the South American states of the first half of the 1800s, before the Civil War, when Africans were torn from their land, imported to America and enslaved in the colonies. Huck is a boy of about ten years, who escapes from the constant beatings of his alcoholic father, living for some time in a barrel and then embarking on a trip on a raft in the company of the slave Jim, escaped from his colony, therefore sought after by hunters. of sizes. Along the Mississippi River, the two will be the protagonists of a thousand adventures, sometimes with very sad implications, which will highlight the social and cultural layer of America of those years, made up of racial problems, class divisions, contradictions and hypocrisies that will culminate with the Civil War of 1861.
JimSince Huck's disappearance from the village coincided with Jim's escape, it is rumored that the slave has kidnapped the boy; in reality the two have embarked on a joint journey towards freedom. Together with them is Lily, a little squirrel who will be very useful during their adventures.
Jim initially tries to make Huck understand that it is better to separate, since their skin color is different. Despite Huck scolding him, Jim leaves, but is soon warned by the squirrel Lily that a big fish has taken the hook, Jim is in trouble and the fish is caught with Huck's help. The two understand that only by joining their forces will they be able to overcome the various difficulties, so they eat the delicious lunch, Huck and Jimsince they had been fasting for several days. Since Jim is suspected in his kidnapping, Huck decides to return to the village, to hear what people say about their disappearance, so he disguises himself as a girl, in a wide hat and a skirt and one night goes to the house of a lady posing as a certain Cecilia Williams, assuming a feminine voice and attitude. The woman tells of the disappearance of Huck and that on Jim there is a bounty of 300 dollars, which will be given to whoever manages to catch him and bring him back to his "owner". Huck is shocked by those words and hurried out of that house, he goes to Jim to warn him. Jim decides to head to Illinois and Huck follows him, but Jim is soon captured by his pursuers.
Huck, Jim and LilyHuck, with a stratagem, manages to free Jim inside a hut, lying to the kidnappers and they are hosted in a reverend's house. The bounty hunters understand that the reverend hides the fugitive therefore, they go to his house, but here they find Huck lying in bed, pretending to be sick with smallpox (a very contagious disease for those times) and the two run away in great careers. A few days later, the Reverend and his family pretend a funeral procession that heads towards the cemetery, but in the coffin there are hidden Huck and Jim, who when they are away from prying eyes, thank their friends and resume their long journey the Mississippi River.
Huck, Jim and LilyDuring the adventures, Jim is injured while on the run, while Huck is greeted by the Greyford family for help, after mistakenly mistaking him for a member of their archenemies: the Jefferson family. The Greyford family is very rich and given the sympathies of their son towards their new friend, they welcome Huck with great benevolence. Thanks to his sympathy, Huck enjoys a thousand comforts and privileges, but he feels guilty for the suffering of his friend Jim, who is treated inside by settlers. Huck witnesses the conflicted love between the beautiful Sophie, the daughter of Mr. Greyford, and George, the son of Mr. Jefferson, who, regardless of the differences between the two rival families, are forced to see each other incognito.
