"Welcome Gigì" / "The magical world of Gigì" (original title: "Maho no princess Minky Momo"), released in Japan in 1982 and broadcast for the first time in Italy in 1983 (on Rete4), returns to have fun on Italia 1 from Monday to Friday, at 8,40 am. The anime, edited by Kunihiko Yuyama, is based on the manga of the same name by Shudo Takeshi.
But who is Gigì? Gigì is a lively and courageous princess (with funny bright pink hair) who came to earth from another world to help many human beings with a pinch of magic. Gigì is also the trailblazer of the many girls capable of performing magical wonders thanks to a magic wand, which have populated the world of cartoons (the enchanting Creamy, Magica Emy, Evelyn, the Sailor Moon etc.). Gigì comes from a kingdom called Fantasia and descends to earth to carry out an important mission entrusted to her by her parents (rulers of the kingdom): to restore happiness to planet Earth. Many years ago, in fact, the Fantasia kingdom was very close to the Earth and men were happy and peaceful, because they believed in dreams, in hopes, in altruism; unfortunately the growing spread of hatred and wars broke the spell. Because of this, the rulers of Fantasia slept a thousand years of sleep, during which the kingdom definitively moved away from the Earth: since then men have no imagination, no longer believe in dreams and are sad! There is only one way to bring the two worlds closer together and reawaken the ancient hopes in the hearts of humans, that is to make the 12 diamonds of King Robin's crown (Gigi's very nice father) shine again.
This is the mission of the princess, who on earth lives with a couple of veterinarians (who under hypnosis believe she is their daughter) and her inseparable friends: a sly dog (Bankers) a mischievous monkey (Cocò) and a vain canary ( Yum Yum)! However, his is not an easy task, since to make a single diamond shine, it is necessary to carry out four good actions. Therefore we will see Gigì transform into a girl with a prodigious talent, capable of carrying out a thousand and more jobs (different according to the circumstances) and intent on helping others, encouraging them to believe in the great dream of her life. In this regard, the meeting with little En, a kind and sensitive child who wishes to be able to become a nurse, in order to financially help her adoptive parents (who love the child so much), is significant. Since En suffers from a very serious illness, she is taken to the hospital, where, alas, she meets some rather grim nurses. This fact secretly shatters the dream of the little girl, who now only wishes to let herself die; until she meets a sweet and mysterious nurse, who will help save her life, but above all will make her change her mind about nurses, sparking a new love for this profession. So if you want to know how Princess Gigì's mission will end, don't miss it! Benvenuta Gigì is a very successful and very pleasant anime, both in terms of drawings (with bright and sunny colors) and in terms of education (the Italian dubbing is a little less happy). The theme song "Benvenuta Gigì" is sung by Cristina D'Avena. Also worthy of mention are the initials "The magical world of Gigì", sung by Sorrisi (1st series of the cartoon) and "Tanto tempo ago ... Gigì" (2nd series), always sung by Cristina D'Avena by Helga Corpino
