She-Ra and the Princesses of War (She-Ra and the Princesses of Power in the American original) is an American animated television series produced by Noelle Stevenson and broadcast starting November 13, 2018 on the Netflix streaming channel. The series is a re-adaptation of the cult animation series She-Ra, the princess of power, broadcast in Italy between 1985 and 1986. It comes from the franchise He-Man and the rulers of the universe of the famous toy manufacturer Mattel.

The cartoon tells the story of Adora, a warrior of the terrible army of the Horde, led by the monstrous Hordak, the tyrant who subdues the population of the planet Etheria. She is one of the best soldiers in the army, so she is selected to become the new captain of the Horde forces whose mission is to destroy the Great Rebellion led by a group of princesses and thus be able to become the queen of Etheria. On a secret escape to Whispering Forest, Adora finds herself separated from her teammate and best friend Catra and discovers a magical sword that transforms her into the mighty warrior She-Ra. Adora decides to go back alone to the forest to retrieve the sword and here she meets Glimmer, a daredevil princess and Bow, a heroic and generous archer. Adora is captured by them and slowly discovers the world around her and the too many that had been told to her by Hordak. He then decides to betray the Horde and those who raised it, to swear allegiance to the Great Rebellion. He learns that She-ra is a princess, the princess of power, who aims to restore balance in Ethernia, uniting all the princesses in the Great Rebellion. She will be helped in her search by the other princesses and members of the rebellion, all with very different but complementary powers.

On December 12, 2017, Noelle Stevenson reveals that she has been developing the reboot of the animated series for several months She-Ra, the princess of power, from the franchise Masters of the universe, with DreamWorks Animation Television for the broadcast on Netflix streaming service.

On May 18, 2018, Netflix made a big announcement, revealing a large portion of the series' original cast to be made including Aimee Carrero, who previously lent her voice to Elena of Avalor princess in the Disney series of the same name, Karen Fukuhara, AJ Michalka or Sandra Oh. The service also reveals the first poster and logo of the series and announces a broadcast by the end of the year 2018.

On July 16, 2018, Netflix unveils the first images of the series and the new She-Ra. The service also announces that the entire season will be available on November 16, 2018 on its platform. However, a few weeks before the season went live, Netflix announces that it will finally be available early on November 13, 2018. On January 24, 2019, the service announced the renewal of the series for a second season and its stream for on April 26, 2019.

The series is graphically inspired by Japanese animation designs and the work of artists Jean Giraud (Moebius) e Hayao Miyazaki.

Graphically, diversity is an important element of the series with characters whose ethnic groups and bodies are diverse and varied. This allows you to differentiate the cartoon from the original series which mainly featured thin and white characters due to the use of a unique mold for the Mattel doll collection.

Fans of classic 80s cartoons and strong female leads patiently counted the days until DreamWorks Animation Television's new reboot of She-Ra and the Princesses of War debuted on Netflix. The new series, created and produced by Eisner Award-winning artist Noelle Stevenson (Nimona, Lumberjanes), centers on an adventurous orphan named Adora, who escapes her life in the evil Horde after discovering a magical sword that transforms her into the mystical warrior She-Ra!

Thanks to Stevenson and the team of artists and writers working on the show, this isn't your standard fantasy adventure series, as it features gorgeous anime-inspired visuals, dynamic and interesting characters, and thrilling storylines in serial format. "We wanted to make sure the characters were true to the spirit of the original show, but we took some liberties"says Stevenson during a recent telephone interview."We loved the sci-fi fantasy elements and the 80s origins of the show, but we also wanted to update the characters for today's audience. So we have different body types, different races, shapes and characters who dress in different ways. "
