In Japan the cartoon was broadcast in 1975. Tekkaman
belongs to the genre of space robots that were in fashion between the late 70s and early 80s, but there are some differences that make this hero an original character. Unlike the other pilots who drive the classic George robots to rule the Tekkaman it merges with him by binding with its mechanical parts, thus transforming itself into a cyborg. The story of Tekkaman It is set in the XNUMXst century, when the earth's atmosphere due to nuclear conflicts is heavily polluted by radioactivity, which within three years will destroy all the food resources of the earth, thus decreeing the extinction of mankind. In order to solve this problem, the "Spatial Development Program", an institution that brings together all the best scientists on earth, headed by Dr Shukura Amachi. Among them they discuss the possibilities to heal the planet or to leave the earth in search of other worlds. Unfortunately, the attempt to heal the earth fails because scientists discover that the pollution of the atmosphere has entered an irreversible phase, therefore they concentrate their forces and their intelligence to allow the exodus of the earth's population, in order to find new habitable planets. To experiment with these studies, spaceships are sent to space, which, however, must collide with another unexpected threat: Waldaster's aliens commanded by the evil Rambo.
The spaceship of the Captain Minami Destroyed by an unexpected bombing and this tragedy is assisted by her son George, who swears revenge against the extraterrestrials. In order to counter the fleets of Waldaster,
Doctor Amachi reveals the project of the Pegas robot, a machine capable of fighting extraterrestrials, but not yet tested, in fact there is the risk that the same armor can kill the one who tries it. George is so thirsty for revenge that he doesn't hesitate to experiment with it on himself. Together with doctor Amachi and Hiromi he leaves aboard the spaceship called Terra Azzurra. The Pegas robot is equipped with a transformation chamber, which will allow George to transform into Tekkaman. In space the spaceship is attacked by enemy fleets and George does not hesitate to use the very risky machine for space combat. George gives the order to the Pegas robot to receive it and he introduces it inside himself through an opening in his legs, at the phrase "Power up!" the very painful transformation begins. George's body is covered in barbed wire and blades that transform him into Tekkaman, a man of steel capable of breathing in the cosmos and fighting with a whip and a spear. George has only 37 minutes of autonomy to defeat his enemies, otherwise his body would risk death inside the Tekkaman. Another weak point of Tekkaman is represented by its main strength, in fact the star on its forehead, the Voltekker can emanate a very powerful energy beam, capable of disintegrating enemy spaceships, but at the same time weakening all its resources. Despite everything Tekkaman succeeds in his intent and defeats the enemy spaceships after a spectacular fight. Back on earth they meet a strange character who manages to manipulate his body by transforming himself into a sphere of light and passing through the walls, it is Andro Umeda, an alien who escaped the destruction of his planet Sanno by Waldaster's troops. Although they are united by the same ideal, that is to defeat Waldaster's aliens, George looks with suspicion at his new colleague who has joined the Space Knights thanks to doctor Amachi, as he hates all aliens indiscriminately, Androumeda for his part does not nothing to attract his sympathy. Together with Androumeda there is also Roshi a strange alien creature that will give a precious help to our heroes. The project of the Space Knights is to hit Waldaster's fleets in the heart, heading directly to their planet thanks to super speed and destroying it. The Tekkaman cartoons were also characterized by the nice Japanese theme song sung by the Micronauts, for the period one of the many novelties coming from the land of the rising sun.
