The series consists of 24 episodes each lasting 25 minutes and was created by Jeff Goode and Christian Roman for Walt Disney Television Animation. The protagonist is a thirteen year old American with oriental features, who responds to the name of Jake Long and in fact his origins are Chinese. Jake Long could be a guy like many others: he loves skateboarding, playing video games, trying his hand at extreme sports and listening to music, were it not for the fact that he can transform into the magnificent American Dragon.

American DragonIn this New York we therefore find a parallel dimension, populated by spirits and magical figures such as unicorns, gorgoyles, Trolls, Sirens, Fauns, but also evil entities that our American Dragon has the task of defeating for the defense of other creatures. Threatening this world is also the Hunter, the leader of the Huntsclan sect, who goes in search of magical creatures to capture, thanks to his super-equipped staff and his faithful ally the Huntress. Jake Long is trained by his grandfather Lao Shi (figure inspired by the famous master of the movie "Karate Kid"), coming from a dynasty of Chinese dragons, who teaches him all the secrets to become the perfect American Dragon. Inside the school attended by Jake Long there are several characters: Rose the beautiful blonde girl with blue eyes, who turns our Jake's head spinning, Trixie a girl who loves skateboarding and Spud a very lazy boy who loves to meditate and philosophize about life. Jake Long (American Dragon) has a younger sister named Haley, who would also like to become a dragon, so he tries his hand at the first lessons, we also find Fu Dog a magical dog who is about 600 years old and talks like men. To remember the episode "Scene 15 Act 4" where we find Jake Long who, in order to win Rose's heart, participates in the school play "Antonio and Cleopatra", where they will be the protagonists, but precisely during the kiss scene (scene 15 act 4) the Huntsclan sect intervenes. In the episode "The Breath of the Dragon" Jake prepares to attend the school dance party, but the magical spirits take to the field and the party turns into a battleground among magical creatures.

In another episode Jake, Fu Doge and Grandpa arrive at the dragon council on the other side of the world. Jake will have to pass at least two out of three tests: courage in flight, knowledge in battle, and mastery of the Dragon's fire. But during these rehearsals Jake is annoyed by an Australian snob, who distracts him. Another episode to report is the one in which we find Jake aboard his skateboard who goes towards Rose, determined to reveal his true nature as a dragon. Here Jake will discover some important surprises regarding Rose's personality.
