The series Astrorobot contact Ypsylon (original title Blocker Gundan IV machine blaster), produced by Nippon Animation for a total of 38 episodes, was broadcast for the first time in Italy on Rai Due, in September 1980.
The story begins when the ancient people of the Mogurus, who reside at the bottom of the oceans, awaken to recapture the land. The Mogurus have an alien origin, as they come from the 5D planet, once located between Mars and Jupiter, which was abandoned millions of years ago, before its destruction. The inhabitants found refuge in the underwater depths of the earth, thus creating the people of Atlantis.
At the head of this people we find the Queen of the Atlanteans, Hellqueen the 5th queen of the Mogurus, who with her soldiers and her hideous monsters, begins to launch the first attacks on mankind. Professor Uri, a scientist at the head of the World Defense Organization, has designed a defense base called the Astro base, where sophisticated defense weapons are located, but the highlight of this technology is the construction of 4 gigantic modular robots, made by Dr. Hojo, all equipped with super technological weapons. To pilot these robots, 4 boys with special characteristics were enrolled in spite of themselves.
The first is Yanosh Asuka, a boy with a restless and arrogant temperament, as he grew up in a reform school. Yanosh is entrusted with the task of piloting the Space Storm robot and he does it in an excellent way, even if very often he disobeys the orders of Professor Uri. Despite everything Yanosh proves generous and unselfish especially towards his teammates. The pilot of the Stellar Earthquake is instead Gensuka Yshida, who contrary to Yanosh is very rational and strategic, the real right hand of Professor Uri, therefore very often gives rise to heated conflicts with his teammate. The pilot of the Galactic Breakthrough is Ylly, a fatherless blue-eyed boy. Finally, to pilot the Solar Turbine, little Ynta is enlisted, a boy of about 10 years, a friend of Yanosh from the time of the reformatory. All the boys have the characteristic of possessing the Y organ, which allows them to pilot the Astrorobots. To give a hand to the 4 boys there is also Uka, the daughter of Doctor Hojo, the greatest scholar of the Moguru people, who is killed by some hitmen. Uka in the course of history will fall in love with Yanosh. The group's mascot is represented by Picot a small sentient robot (similar to Astroboy), who is able to read minds and identify people with the Y power.
On board the 4 Astrobots, the boys face a monster from Moguru, which is destroying a city. Unfortunately they are still inexperienced and disorganized and the monster knocks them out. This will help them understand that victory is only achieved by team play, therefore by joining together they form the Magnetic Y Pinwheel, capable of spinning at supersonic speed and taking out the terrible monster. Yanosh, however, does not want to follow the rules and decides to leave the group, to return to the reformatory. Here he is followed by Moguru's spies, who mistake the institute for the Astro base. The Mogurus decide to attack the city and destroy the reformatory, just when Yanosh had moved to argue with his teammates Y. Ylly, he cannot help but despair to see his city destroyed by the monster and his friends in danger, therefore tries to convince Yanosh to return to the team. He also sees his old teacher die, who sacrificed himself to save the children. Yanosh decides to avenge his friend's death and decides to resume the battle. The Astrorobots return to the attack and after a heated battle, they defeat the monster, bringing to safety the city and the children of the reformatory.
When called to action, the 4 boys run towards the door of the Astro base and get on the platform that takes them to the guide of 4 aircraft. From here, after calling their respective robots, they get behind the wheel and take off with their respective shuttles: alpha, Beta, Gamma and Delta that are positioned in the head of their Astrorobot, taking over its commands. The Space Storm Astrorobot led by Yanosh, emits laser beams from the eyes, fights with two giant iron clubs linked by a chain, fires chest missiles and is equipped with a thermionic machine gun, located on the shoulders. Space Storm can also extend its arms to deliver violent punches. Star Earthquake led by Yshida, has space chains that fires from the wrists and emits a liquefying lightning bolt, from the horns located on the head. In battle he fights using axes, which he can join together to form a giant halberd.
It can also fire missiles that emerge from the belly of the robot. Galactic Breakthrough, piloted by Ylly, is also equipped with a liquefying lightning bolt, emanating from the horns. He fights with harpoon blades, which he extracts from his legs and fires missiles from his shoulder. Little Ynta controls Solar Whirlwind, an Astrorobot with a metal flaking spiked fist, missiles that fires from the belt, glowing blades and a powerful laser beam that fires from the antenna located on the head. They reach their maximum power when they unite in various positions: the Magnetic Y Pinwheel that they form when they unite by holding on to the ankles and forming a circle, which spinning at a supersonic speed creates a vortex that destroys the enemy in turn. Another scheme is that of the M method, where the four Astrorobots unite and emanate a gigantic energy beam, and then deal the final blow. The monsters of the Moguru are made by Zanga, the scientist and advisor to Queen Hellqueen, in perennial conflict with Goroski, the terrible commander of the army of Moguru. After a series of vicissitudes and battles, Queen Hellqueen dies in the course of a magical experiment. His younger sister Sandra takes his place, no less terrible than the previous one and will be escorted by a fighting body, made up of only female soldiers. Over the course of history, it will be discovered that Yanosh's father was a Moguru, who crossed paths with an earthling, direct descendant of Nostler, an alien who fled from Moguru along with his people, but with the intent to save the earth.
