Blackstar is a heroic fantasy cartoon created by Filmation in 1981. The animated series consists of 13 episodes, each lasting 30 minutes and among the authors who drew the characters are Kevin Frank, Mel Keefer, Tim Gula and Janice Stocks.

This series, which has not had a particular success with the public, has the merit of having been the forerunner to subsequent series of far more successful Thundarr the Barbarian, but above all He-Man and the rulers of the universe, enough to be called by fans as "He-Man's unfortunate cousin".

The story tells the adventures of John Blackstar, an astronaut who, traveling the cosmos, due to a breakdown of his spaceship, falls into the wild world of Sagar. The Trobbits come to his aid, small creatures similar to Hobbits and Trolls who take care of him. The Trobbits are in battle with the evil Overlord, a cruel tyrant who wants to become the master of Sagar and subdue all its inhabitants. Blackstar will join the Trollbits to fight Overlord and prevent Overlord from taking possession of the Power Star, a magical object capable of giving enormous power. From this object derive two magical sppadas, on one side the Star Sword held by Blackstar and on the other the Sword of Power that fell into Overlord's hands. Over the course of the Blackstar episodes, with the help of the Trobbits, the witch Mara and the shape-shifting creature Clone, they will try to prevent Overlord from conquering the planet.
