Sweet little Remy

Based on Hector Malot's masterpiece "Senza Famiglia" written in 1878, the series tells the story of the little orphan Remi. Unlike the novel and the first anime of 1978 "Sweet Remì"The protagonist is a 10-year-old girl, who has the particularity of being gifted with a beautiful voice, with a melodious song. The series was produced in 1996 by Nippon Animation, directed by Kozo Kusuba, and consists of 26 episodes each lasting 25 minutes and is part of the project World Masterpiece Theater. From 29 February 2008 it will be broadcast from Monday to Friday at 7.20 on Italia 1.

Remy is a little girl who lives with her little sister Nana and her mother near a small French village. Despite the precarious economic conditions of the family, Remy lives happy, surrounded by the affection of her family, however she does not yet know her father, as he left for work in Paris when she was still very small. The precious source of sustenance of the family is represented by the cow Rosina, which produces an exquisite milk that is in great demand in the village, also because Remy cheers her up with the sweet notes of her song. But one day Remy's mother receives the sad news that her husband has had a serious accident at work, which has compromised the use of his leg, so he will have to stop working.

Meanwhile Remy in the company of Nana, enjoys singing along the road that leads her to the village, where she goes to sell milk like every morning. Here she is heard by a street artist who is struck by her beautiful voice. This is Mr. Vitali who runs a theatrical company consisting of three dogs and a monkey. The dogs are called Capi (distinguished by a military hat), Zerbino (with a blue jacket) and Dolce (the smallest of the company), while the cute little monkey is called Belcuore. Mr. Vitali gives the two girls a lift to the village. Once at the shop, Remy learns the news that a singing competition will soon be held in the village and the winner will receive a beautiful collection of dishes. Remy is enchanted by the beauty of the prize and wants to participate in the competition.

On the way back, Remy and Nana learn the news of their father's serious accident. Eager to give her mother a gift, she decides to participate and win the singing competition, in the company of the cow Rosina. Meanwhile, Remy's mother receives another bad news. A man shows up at her home, claiming to have lent money for her husband's hospital treatment. To pay off the debt, he signed a contract where he declares to sell the cow Rosina to the man, who then becomes the owner. Meanwhile Remy performs with her sweet and moving song dedicated to her mother, in front of the audience and the people of the village do not hesitate to award her the first prize.

Unfortunately, even the man does not hesitate to take the cow Rosina, the only source of sustenance for the family. That night, during a thunderstorm, a lame man enters Remy's family home: it is his father Geron. The man immediately appears hard and rude, perhaps because the suffering of his physical condition has altered his personality making him a cynical and unscrupulous person.

Remy sees her father's face for the first time, but is deeply disappointed that she is being treated like a stranger. Soon the little girl learns her true story: Remy is a foundling who has been adopted by that family. The man found her on a corner of a Paris street and unable to understand who her mother was, after asking around he was forced to keep her at home. Given their financial condition, the man believes that they can no longer support the girl and decides to send Remy to work. Remy does not lose heart and to make his mother happy, he decides to go to work at the village shop. Her father takes her to the village, but decides to sell her to a rough individual, who after collecting the money, locks her up in a cellar. Mr. Vitali witnessed the scene and decides to devise a plan to free Remy. He tries to buy the little one from the merchant, but while he pretends to go get the money he frees the little one and runs away with his cart.

Remy and the little monkey Belcuore

When the merchant realizes that he has been deceived, he chases him and goes to Remy's house thinking that the little girl has returned home, but Mr. Vitali decides to run away to never meet that man again. For Remy, a new life begins in the company of Mr. Vitali and his friendly trained animals, who perform around the streets of French villages. The theater company is very successful and Remy is also given the opportunity to perform with his singing and earn some money, thanks to offers from the public. Remy will learn the difficulties of hard work as a street artist, but will be enriched with precious experiences, thanks to the help of Mr. Vitali who will teach her how to read and to become a generous and responsible child. But in his heart Remy dreams of one day meeting his adoptive mother, who never stops remembering especially in times of difficulty.
