The Fancy Lala cartoon (original title Mahou no Stage Fancy Lala) was broadcast for the first time on Italia 1 in June 2001. The series is based on the manga comic by Rurika Kasuga and was produced by Studio Pierrot, for a total of 26 episodes.
The main character is Miha Azuki, a 12-year-old girl (actually 9 in the manga), who loves to draw and dream of becoming a famous singer. Her inseparable friends are Teddy and Akira, who often give her valuable advice regarding her aspirations. One day she goes to a drawing shop and here she meets a gentleman with a strange hat, who gives her two funny goblins named Peo and Pea. These come from the "Garden of Time" dimension and ask Miha to be able to stay with her, as I cannot return to their world. In exchange, they give her a magical pen and sketchbook: any of her drawings can then be transformed into reality. At the words Dabu Dabu she too transforms and becomes Fancy Lala, a beautiful 16-year-old girl, who can wear all the clothes she designs herself. The following day she goes in the shoes of Fancy Lala, in the Tokyo district where the talent scouts are looking for aspiring stars of the entertainment world.
Here she is accidentally contacted by ex-model Yumi Haneishi of Lyrical Production, who proposes to show her as a model, later she will start performing as a singer and within a few months, to become a star of the show. Fancy Lala, will also meet Hiro Aikawa, the singer of her dreams, with whom she has been in love for some time. Between the two there will be Miki Yumeno, a very famous singer who is also in love with Hiro, who will put a spoke in the wheel for Lala, but with whom he will later establish a beautiful relationship of friendship.
After a period of vacation, Miha returns to Tokyo for her first concert as Lala, but is assailed by the first doubts about how to reconcile her two different identities. She asks Peo and Pea for help, but not even the elves are able to give her an exhaustive answer. Lala decides to perform and gets great success and compliments from Lyrical Productions. When everything seems to be going well, he loses his backpack with the magic pen and sketchbook.
Not being able to transform herself into Lala anymore, she is forced to cancel all the job opportunities that had happened to her, thanks to the success of the exhibition such as presenting television quizzes and making records. Miha asks Peo and Pea for help to get the magic items back, but they too leave her to return to their dimension. The following day, Miha decides to return to Lyrical Production, to greet all of her friends. At this point Hiro, after Miha's farewell, realizes that he has fallen in love with her, but by now it's too late to tell her. Later Miha meets the strange man with the hat, who reveals that he can no longer see Peo and Pea, let alone the lost items. However, she assures him that she herself will become Fancy Lala without the need for magical items, as Lala was her own projection into the future.
