King Arthur's Sword (original title Entaku no Kishi Monogatari Moero Asa) is an anime series based on the legend of King Arthur based on the novel by Thomas Malory. The series was made by Toei Animation, for a total of 52 episodes of half an hour each between 9 September 1979 and 3 March 1980.
History
When Prince Arthur was still a child and his father King Uther ruled Camelot, Lavik, another king who wished to conquer Camelot, attacked the castle. Arthur is saved by the wise Merlin who has entrusted him to another knight in order to keep Arthur in a safe place. For many years this knight protected and regarded Arthur as his son.
At the age of 15 Arthur participated in a tournament with his stepfather. There he could draw the sword Excalibur from a stone. This action proved that Arthur was the rightful king of England. Arthur's adoptive father finally revealed his royal lineage to him. Since then King Arthur and some subjects began to fight against the evil King Lavik, aided by the witch Medessa.
King Arthur's Sword tells the story of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, featuring classic characters such as Lancelot, Guinevere, Tristan, Percival, Merlin, Uther and Igraine, and other familiar objects like Camelot and Excalibur. On the other hand, the series is not faithfully adapted to the original narrative of the legend. For example, new characters and stories are added so that the story can be adapted to a children's audience.
