Made up of 26 episodes, each lasting 22 minutes, it was made in 1994 by the studios of Enoki Films and belongs to the Japanese genre of Meisaku, the animated series that refer to the classics of children's literature. On Italia 1 it has already been broadcast both in 1992 and in 1996 and has also had a rerun on Hiro in April 2010. This series should not be confused with “A river of adventures with Huck”Made by Group Tac and Nippon Herald in 1976. From Monday 13 June 2011 the series will be broadcast at 9,30

In the first episode we find the young Huckleberry Finn, a vagrant boy who spends his days sailing the river, lying comfortably on a tree trunk and intent on fishing with a line tied to his foot. Unfortunately, the fish that has grabbed its bait turns out to be of such large proportions, that it cannot catch it, thus ending up bathing in the river. Back on the shore, Huck meets a small dog, who, like him, finds himself on an empty stomach, so the two will have to come up with some other stratagem to get some food.
My friend HuckHuck was left alone due to the death of his mother and the departure of his father, who went to seek his fortune as a gold digger. Along the way he meets Tom Sawyer, a red-haired boy, with whom he has a fight and they almost end up fighting, except that Tom was late for class at school. Arriving in the village of St. Petersburg, Huck is attracted to the shops displaying the sweets in the window, but is immediately chased away by the shopkeeper. He suffers the same treatment when he allows himself to bite into an apple, which rolled off the cart of a greengrocer. The toothless temperamental man chases him through the streets of the village involving other passers-by, in a hunt for the elusive Huck who, thanks to his agility, manages to climb everywhere and run across the roofs. Thanks to Huck's inattention, the greengrocer manages to catch him, but fortunately the elderly widow Duglas offers to pay for the apple that the young tramp had eaten.
Meanwhile, after class, young Tom Sawyer and his classmates enjoy playing Robin Hood's adventures with their wooden swords. From the top of a tree they see Huck, who sitting on a branch blissfully enjoys the tasty apples that have been given to her.
Tom renews his unresolved challenge and invites him to come down from the tree. Huck accepts and the two compete in a test of strength, which consists of throwing a heavy boulder as far as possible. This test ends in a draw so they decide to challenge each other to hold their breath, but although they seriously risk fainting like two fools, this race also ends in a draw.
Huck argues with Tom Sawyer - My friend HuckThe diehards Tom and Huck then decide to race at speed along the forest path, but must stop their race when the road stops near the lake. Also in this case they arrive in perfect equality, while Tom's friends reach them out of breath for the grueling race. The two stubborn boys then decide to challenge each other in a swimming competition, but traveling both sides of the pond they end up reaching the finish line again, at the same precise moment. Taking note of their respective value, the two boys become friends and start joking with each other. The group of boys enjoy following the routes of the boat that sails along the Mississippi River, imitating its puffs: Tom and Huck already seem old friends. That evening, Huck, while looking for a bed to sleep on, meets again the stray dog (which he calls Luck) inside an abandoned barrel, so after eating a fish from the river, the two fall asleep inside that makeshift shelter.
The following day the boat cook instructs Huck to get him frogs in exchange for money, but the boy doesn't trust that cheater, always ready to take advantage of the work of others.
Huck and Luck - My friend HuckMeanwhile his friends Tom and Jim arrive and invite him to play brigands with their wooden rifles, however the boy has no time to play because he wants to build a hut, with the logs he found along the Mississippi River, right above a tree. Tom and Jim are thrilled with the idea and so they decide to help him and collect all the wood they find. Even when they are in class, they do nothing but think about the plan for Huck's hut and as usual they do not pay attention to the teacher's lessons. In class Tom is also distracted by Becky, a little girl with blonde braids with whom he is in love. The time outside of school hours, Tom and Jim dedicate to building the treehouse, from which they can admire the passage of the boat. Tom dreams of becoming the captain of a ship, while Jim would like to be a doctor to heal his mother. Meanwhile, an unexpected visit arrives: it is Becky who goes to their shelter with a basket full of sandwiches. Tom and his friends welcome her as if she were a princess and let her rise above their shelter. The little girl is unwilling to be seen by Huck and Jim, who they believe may hinder their entertainment. Their works are also observed from a distance by George and his rival friends of Tom, jealous that Becky is on their side.
In order to complete the work on the hut, Huck goes to the village to get some nails left on the road, but the few he finds are all crooked. So he enters the hardware store, where he admires a box with nails perfect for his job, but the grumpy shopkeeper throws him away.
Jim and Tom - My friend HuckAt the shelter the boys do everything possible to straighten the recovered nails, but being rusty they cannot even penetrate the wood and I end up breaking them. Huck then decides to go and catch the lake frogs to sell them to the boat's cook, in this way he will have the money to buy the nails. Arriving in the village with a sack full of frogs, the boy is accused by the shopkeeper of having stolen a box of nails, but while Huck escapes Becky takes his defense, testifying his innocence with a speech that moves all the people present. The shopkeeper discovers that the nails were stolen by Tom's rival George, to put the blame on Huck and his friends. Meanwhile at the river Huck he is embittered by the accusation of theft and resigned, he decides to free the frogs.
The following day the boys meet again without frogs and without nails, but with a renewed enthusiasm to continue the construction of the hut. George arrives unexpectedly and, regretting his action and following his father's orders, gives the boys the box of nails he had stolen. So the boys accept him in their group and together they decide to complete the construction of the hut.

This is one of the many adventures that will feature Huck and his friends Tom Jim and Becky.

Note the nice theme song sung by Cristina D'Avena and written by Alessandra Valeri Manera, with music by Carmelo Carucci.
