Rascal my friend the bear (original title Araiguma Rascal) is the Japanese cartoon based on the novel "Rascal, a memoir of a better era" by the American writer North Sterling, who in 1963 wanted to tell a story based on his childhood experience , when he raised a raccoon found in the forest. The book was so successful that it became a classic of children's literature, to the point that several films and the cartoon series produced by Nippon Animation in 1977 were made.

 The story is set in 1914 Wisconsin, in a small town near Lake Koshgonong, surrounded by a beautiful and lush forest. The young protagonist Sterling, like any boy of his age, is curious to explore nature and the world around him. One day in the forest, he finds a small raccoon who has been injured and orphaned of his mother. Sterling contrary to the wishes of his parents, takes him to his farm and raises him with all possible care. The problems begin when the raccoon, once he has grown up and driven by his instincts, begins to cause a series of troubles on the farm. Sterling's parents consider him a danger to the chickens and the animals that are raised on the farm, as the little raccoon is still a predatory animal. The adventures of the young Sterling and Rascal will continue until the boy, having to move to Milwaukee to attend high school, will be forced against his will to free the raccoon who will return to the forest. From this experience Sterling will understand that friendship and freedom are the greatest gifts we can receive.
The drawings and animations do not disappoint the typical quality of the genre World Masterpiece Theater Nippon Animation, anime taken from children's literature among which we find masterpieces of the caliber of Lovely Sara, My friend Patrache, The adventures of sweet Katy and many others.
