Starting from Friday 19 June 2009, at 23,30 pm on Boing the cartoon "The adventures of sweet Kati" (original title Makiba no shôjo katori) based on the 1938 autobiographical novel "Paimen, piika ja emäntä" by the Finnish Auni Nuolivaara will be broadcast. The anime series belongs to the genre World Masterpiece Theater and was produced in 1984 by Nippon Animation for a total of 49 episodes. In Italy it was broadcast in 1985 on Italia 1, but 48 episodes were broadcast, as the penultimate was cut. The characters were characterized very well by Noboru Katano and the realization of the production was entrusted to Saito Hiroshi. Noteworthy is the excellent background music by maestro Hideki Fuyuki. The protagonist is a 6-year-old Finnish girl named Kati and the story begins in 1915, just before the world war. The widowed mother was forced to entrust Kati to her peasant grandparents, because she had to emigrate to Germany together with her employers, but she never failed to send the support to the child. Before leaving he gave her a dachshund dog named Giona who will become Kati's inseparable friend, supporting her in moments of difficulty and sadness. During the war between Germany and Finland, communications between the two countries are interrupted and so the child no longer receives money and news from her mother. Even the grandparents suffer a serious economic crisis, as one of their cows is mauled by a bear. So Kati, who is now 9 years old, despite the contrary opinion of her grandparents, decides to go and look for a job. Thanks to her neighbor and friend Marty, the son of a wealthy family, Kati finds a job as a cow keeper with some landowners, but this forces her to separate from her grandparents. As the years go by, Kati will demonstrate great willpower, overcoming the hard work, such as weaving wool, looking after the cows and washing clothes in the river, but at the same time retaining her optimism and her innate sweetness , which will lead her to learn to read and write. The passion for stories will be transmitted to her by Gumilla, an elderly lady who entertains her with the fascinating stories of the Finnish epic, during the cold winter days. Among other characters, he will also meet the cowkeeper Pepper. A significant moment in the life of sweet Kati will be when she will work for a wealthy city lady to look after her little son. Thanks to her loving care and her kindness, Kati will win the admiration of the lady who will make her attend the school in Helsinki, where the girl will stand out for her marked intelligence and aptitude for studies, especially for writing. Through the adventures of sweet Kati, historical events of that period will also be retraced, such as Finnish nationalism, the consequences of the Russian October revolution and the fate of the First World War, seen from the Finnish front. An anime not to be missed especially for lovers of this genre. The very catchy and pleasant theme song is sung by Cristina D'Avena and I Piccoli cantori di Milano, to the music of Mariano Detto and the texts of Alessandra Valeri Manera.
