Certainly one of the most acclaimed phenomena, loved and followed by fans in the distant 80s is the Transformers saga, the progenitor of the robotic genre so much in vogue in the last century and which reappears with ever more incisive force, returning to crowd the screens of our cinemas and our TVs. The success consecrated to the films of the live action trilogy directed by Michael Bay, "Transformers" of 2007, "Transformers - Revenge of the Fallen" of 2009 and "Transformers 3" of 2011, which took up the ancient characters of the Japanese animated TV series. American, bringing them back to a modern and digital context, saw the return to the limelight of the animated series, now covered with ultra-futuristic special effects and a new, fast and captivating design.

From cinema to the world of video games, where Hasbro (the well-known manufacturer of the saga and all the merchandising and marketing related to it) produced the hit game "War For Cybertron", followed by "Dark Of The Moon", and finally from the latest "Transformers: The Fall of Cybertron", the live action game that narrates the events that took place on Cybertron in the escalation of the fratricidal struggle between Autobot and Decepticon and in the consequent fall of the planet of origin and the exile of the Autobots . A prequel, therefore, of the events that took place between the two rival gangs before their arrival on earth. And it is precisely from videogames that “Trasformers: Prime” was inspired, the series entirely shot in computer graphics that has been going crazy on Cartoon Network screens for some time.

"Trasformers: Prime" is an American animated TV series based on the Transformers saga of the same name, the historic Japanese-US co-production that has its roots back in 1984. It is a reinterpretation of the historic "Trasformers G1" that Hasbro has decided to produce after the success of videogames. The series, animated by the graphics company Digitalscape Company Limited, aired for the first time on The Hub, the animated channel of Hasbro, on November 26, 2012, initially presented as a mini series in 5 episodes. Given the enormous success of this mini series, followed and acclaimed by an increasingly large audience, Hasbro has decided to produce new episodes. What was born, therefore, as a small project in five episodes, was completed in a complete first season of 21 episodes, of 22 minutes each, which aired for the first time in February 2011. This first season was followed by a second season that started in February 2012. The series, since its release, has met with an out of the ordinary favor, and has also been awarded with several Daytime Emmy Awards, and that's why the expectations of the public will not be disappointed: it is coming, in fact, a third season, which is scheduled for 2013. In Italy, the TV series “Transformers Prime” premiered in September 2011 on Italia 1. Subsequently, the reruns were broadcast on the Boing channel. From 8 October 2012, the second season will be broadcast on Cartoon Network for the first time on TV. Created by the producers of "Star Trek", "Trasformers: the movie" and the TV series "Fringe", as well as screenwriters of the first two films of the series, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, and by the producer of the TV series "Men in black", Jeff Kline, “Trasformers: Prime” brings to the screen the epic adventures of the Autobots team and the army of their arch enemies, the Decepticons.

The title, Prime, refers to the desire to create a historicity and contiguity with the origins of the Prime. It is a fascinating and exciting series also for the audience of new little fans, as well as for the faithful historians who passionately follow the events of the protagonists Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Ratchet, Arcee, and Bulkhead for many years now, protagonists that we will all see engaged in the umpteenth challenge against the evil Megatron, the well-known leader of the Decepticons, who once again moves in his evil project to conquer planet Earth.
This time Megatron is stronger than ever, and Team Prime may seem in the minority compared to the angry hordes of the Decepticons, but to lend a hand to our heroes will be three human boys, with whom they will form a bond that will allow the team to acquire renewed power. The miniseries begins with Team Prime, led by Optimus Prime himself, located in the Omega One outpost, the Autobots' secret base on earth, located within the desert territory of the mountains in Nevada. From here, the Autobots can prevent a possible return of Megatron to Earth, and are protected, in their headquarters, by the Government of the United States of America, which knows of the presence of the Autobots in Nevada and has formed a sort of alliance with them.

The first of the five episodes of the miniseries, entitled "The comeback of darkness”Begins right in the desert, where we see a lone Cliffjumper, once a member of the Autobot team too, picking up a signal on a mountain. The discovery Cliffjumper makes is shocking: the signal, in fact, would indicate the presence of a mine of dark Energon, a source of energy for all the inhabitants of Cybertron. The Decepticons, however, are lurking, and intercept Cliffjumper. At this point the duel for the Energon begins. Arcee, who witnessed the incident, warns the other Autobots of the danger. From this episode the Autobot fight against Decepticon began. After the first episodes, the first season continues under the sign of the apparent death of Megatron and the appearance of the new leader of the Decepticons, Starscream, who also seems willing to lead his army to conquer the earth. The Autobots find themselves involved in a tough battle to stop the Decepticons, but the problems don't end there. In fact, a new threat has arrived to put Team Prime in difficulty. The Autobots also find themselves having to clash with an anti-government association, MECH. MECH is a terrorist organization aimed at creating a new world order, with the aim of subverting the government system of the United States of America. During the first season, surprisingly, Megatron returns, and thus we witness the coexistence between him and the new leader. Megatron resumes his command post, and discovers that in reality the evil Starscream is intent on killing him. But the surprises aren't over yet.

The Autobot team, in fact, during the final episodes of the first season, is forced, albeit reluctantly, to join forces with the historic Decepticon enemies, in an alliance in function of the salvation of planet earth, against the common enemy Unicron. Ultimately, in order to defeat the threat and bring Unicron back into stasis, the leader Optimus Prime will have to use all his strength with the use of the Command Matrix. This huge sacrifice will result in Optimus losing Prime status, as well as memory. That's why, at the end of the first season, we will see Optimus Prime join Megatron's army of Decepticons, under the new name of Orion Pax. During the second season, the Autobot team will therefore be committed to the salvation of its old leader, Optimus Prime, and will fight the Decepticons while trying to get Optimus to regain his lost memory and return to the command of his old team. In the third season the battle between the two teams proceeds, and it is expected the arrival of a new and lethal weapon, with which the Decepticons will try to defeat the Autobots.

It is clear to all that “Trasformers” represents a sort of generational work, a historical monolith for animation and for all the genre related to it. With the passage of time and the various releases, including films, videogames and more, the work has been transformed, and has reached such a multiplicity of versions that everyone has their favorite and everyone can find their own vision. In this sense, "Transformers Prime" is a sort of summa that brings together characters, atmospheres, original stories, with new content, narrative vivacity, speed of development and thrilling graphics that enjoy the latest and most advanced technologies in the digital field. In this last series, then, the element of hard challenge, almost on the verge of unsolvable, that the Autobots have to face, and that makes their adventures even more intense and exciting, comes out even more. Both the Autobots and the Decepticons are represented in the round, thus becoming characters destined to remain in the minds and hearts of fans. Also in "Transformers Prime" there seems to be a willingness to show the limited possibilities and difficulties of the Autobots against the might of the Decepticons. The element of struggle and the intrinsic difficulties of the struggle has always been at the center of the saga. In this chapter, more than in the others, the enormity of the challenge that the Autobots are forced to face adventure after adventure is highlighted. As for the technique, moreover, when you work in computer graphics everything becomes more complex, more difficult to process, compared to the classic traditional animation. The technical processing of the characters, which in Prime are so many, is continually complicated, since this requires perfectionism and an ability to manage uncommon technologies. From this point of view, the story of the Autobots almost seems to transpose the difficulties in their elaboration onto a metanarrative level.

One of the great strengths of "Transformers Prime", and of the saga in general, is the ability to address a huge audience. The themes and the intertwining make it a compelling product for children, both today and yesterday, and the violence contained within the limits of the acceptable and psychologically sustainable make it a safe product from the point of view of parents who let the their children watch it quietly. Furthermore, the fact that it is a science fiction epic makes it a mine of archetypal and training themes that have their roots in our collective unconscious. What you perceive by looking at "Transformers Prime" is the love and passion for their work that the creators are able to convey. It is clear that we are facing one of those works written for fans by authors who are, have been or have become fans of the saga themselves, and it is palpable how the commitment is transmitted not only in the structure of the story, but also in the characterization of the single characters, more and more complex and multi-faceted. Really a series to follow then, whether you are passionate about the genre or not, both for the historical value of a real component of a saga that is now studied in books, and for its formal perfection that is combined with a compelling and irresistible writing. . There is not much more to add: "Trasformers Prime" is the worthy heir to a work that is now passed down from generation to generation, and that like all works of this type we hope it will always find new life, as it does, without having to never get stuck in the already seen.
