Deer – The Dark Guardian of the Forest

In this drawing, we see Deer, the iconic creature of 99 Nights in the Forest. His figure emerges from the center, with a humanoid body and a deer's head crowned by long, intertwined antlers. His enormous, empty eyes and black mouth open in a silent howl convey a profound tension, as if he were about to lash out at anyone who dares enter his domain. Behind him, the bare trees form a menacing arch, almost a natural frame that amplifies the feeling of being trapped in the forest. The bold lines and the symmetry between the antlers and branches evoke the fusion between the creature and the environment: Deer is the forest.

How to color the drawing:

To achieve a realistic and eerie effect, work on contrasts. Deer's body can be colored in shades of dark brown or woody gray, fading slightly toward black as you move down toward his legs. The antlers deserve special attention: start with a light brown base and add darker grain to simulate the rough look of old wood. The eyes and mouth should remain completely black, but you can add a subtle halo of dark red or purple to suggest dark energy. The background, meanwhile, can play with midnight blue, smoky gray, and touches of dark green: the idea is to make Deer emerge from the darkness, as if illuminated by an unnatural glow. If using colored pencils, apply more pressure in the shadows and blend in circular motions. If working digitally, use soft brushes with a low opacity for smooth transitions. Adding a subtle fog effect around the figure will accentuate the mystery of the scene.
