Paddington
is a brown bear with thick, soft fur that you can color
with different shades of brown to give depth and texture.
His lighter muzzle, almost cream or light beige, contrasts
softly with the rest of his body. His dark, soulful
eyes are full of innocence and curiosity, while his
shiny black nose is a focal point of his adorable face.
The most iconic element is his old red hat, slightly
worn but precious because it belonged to his uncle in
Peru. You can color it with intense reds, perhaps adding
light shading to show the passage of time.
Paddington's
blue coat is the other distinctive element of his outfit.
In the drawings, you will often see him in this blue
duffel coat with large toggle buttons, perfect for protecting
himself from the London weather. The blue can vary from
navy to royal blue, and the buttons can be brown or
black. He often wears brown or black wellington boots
as well and, of course, he always has with him his battered
brown suitcase with the label "Please look after this
bear. Thank you." The suitcase can be colored with vintage
browns, adding details like scratches and travel stickers.
The
Brown family who adopts Paddington appears in many drawings.
Mr. Brown with his traditional British look, Mrs. Brown
with her maternal kindness, Judy and Jonathan, the teenage
children, and Mrs. Bird, the pragmatic housekeeper with
a heart of gold. Their expressions range from amused
exasperation to genuine affection when Paddington inevitably
causes some well-intentioned disaster. Mr. Gruber, the
Hungarian antique dealer and friend of Paddington, appears
with his shop full of treasures that you can color with
warm, vintage tones.
The
London settings are wonderful. Paddington Station where
it all began, with its Victorian bricks, signs, and
platforms. The Browns' house at number 32 Windsor Gardens,
with its colorful Georgian facade, elegant windows,
and cozy interior. Scenes include the kitchen where
Paddington prepares his famous marmalade sandwiches,
invariably creating sticky chaos. London's streets with
black taxis, red telephone boxes, double-decker buses,
and historic buildings create a perfect backdrop. Coloring
Paddington means celebrating kindness, integration,
and the idea that a little bit of good manners can make
the world a better place.
