ASTERIX AT THE OLYMPICS

Asterix at the OlympicsThe film is based on one of the most successful and entertaining comics of the couple René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo, when Asterix and Obelix participate in the Olympics organized by Julius Caesar. In this case the two terrible roosters will have to lend a hand to their friend Alafolix. He would like to marry his beloved Greek princess Irina, who, however, was betrothed to the arrogant Brutus, son of the Emperor Julius Caesar (played by a vain Alain Delon). A competition is thus launched, which will see the best champions of the empire come first, in order to aspire to the hand of the young princess. Brutus accepts the challenge, thanks to the fact that he will be able to resort to a thousand tricks and deceptions in order to win the Olympics. Among the various tests there is also the chariot race in "Ben Hur" style and in this juncture we will see champions of the caliber of Michael Schumacher and his inseparable Jean Todt take to the field. There is no shortage of idols from other sports such as Amélie Mauresmo, Tony Parker and Zinédine Zidane. It goes without saying that Asterix and Obelix will excel in all disciplines and especially those where physical strength must be used. There is no shortage of references to current affairs, sport and quotes from famous films, where Delon and Depardieu themselves make a mockery of themselves.

The film that Thomas Langmann dreamed of making since he was a child, due to its countless special effects and a dizzying cast, cost a whopping 80 million euros, thanks to a co-production between Germany, Spain and Italy. However, despite some moments of good fun, the film lacks narrative depth and everything appears too obvious and banal despite the original comic being considered a true masterpiece of its kind.
