The Simpsons - The Movie
Record of box office receipts for the Simpsons film which earned over 6 million euros in the first weekend of screening and could not be otherwise, since these cartoons were considered by Time the best television series of the twentieth century. "The Simpsons" was created on September 8, 1986 by Matt Groening, but it was in 1990 that Homer and the Simpson family became a real television phenomenon, beating the audience record of the American broadcaster Fox Network.
The film begins with Homer and his family going to the cinema to see an animated film by Scratchy & Fichetto. Homer wonders how it is possible for people to go to the cinema to see a cartoon, thus making fun of us viewers who went to see it on the big screen. The theme of the film is focused on ecology and the town of Sprinfield, polluting the lake in a reckless way, represents a cross-section of our dull society, which only thinks of consuming, without worrying about the danger of its residues, which spoil the environment.
The only person who tries to awaken consciences is Lisa Simpson, but she is not listened to except by a child, whom she falls in love with as she embodies all her ideals of perfection. The number one danger of pollution, however, is represented by Homer Simpson (and it could not be otherwise), who takes it into his head to adopt a pig, treating it as if it were a child (which will make Bart jealous). Homer will cause an ecological disaster never seen before, to the point that the president of the United States will do everything to confine the town of Sprigfield in order to avoid contagion of the whole nation. This will be followed by the revolt of the entire population, which will hunt down the Simpsons, as was done in the Middle Ages with witches. The Simpsons are saved by a miracle and manage to escape, but Homer is abandoned by his family, as due to his selfishness and stupidity he no longer considers him worthy of the roles of father and husband. After a series of grotesque and surreal vicissitudes, a journey will begin that will see Homer reflect on the values of solidarity and the importance of the dearest affections, up to the final redemption. The film makes extensive use of quotations and metaphors, as well as the appearance (in the Simpson style) of famous characters such as the Green Day rock band, actor-politician Arnold Schwarzenegger, Tom Hanks and many others.
