The adventures of Tom Thumb and Thumbelina
On June 18, the animated film "The Adventures of Tom Thumb and Thumbelina" was released in cinemas, directed by Glenn Chaika and distributed by Eagle Pictures. The film made exclusively in 2d (which is rare these days) is an original and fortunate mix of two very similar fairy tales: that of Tom Thumb by the Brothers Grimm and that of Thumbelina by Hans Christian Andersen. The drawings are beautiful especially as regards the backgrounds and the reconstruction of the world in miniature, moreover the characters are well characterized for an audience of very young people. The story begins with the presentation of the mini village of the two young protagonists Tom Thumb and Thumbelina, who live in harmony and serenity in their little world surrounded by flowers as big as trees and blades of grass as tall as reeds. Tom Thumb dreams of being able to meet a girl of his own size, while Thumbelina is certain that one day she will meet her soulmate.
One day the tranquility of their village is broken by the arrival of the "giants", of human beings who kidnap Thumbelina and force her to perform as a circus phenomenon, at Mr. Roman's carnival party, together with a mouse and a monkey. Finally, Thumbelina manages to escape, but runs into moles looking for a bride for their king. Meanwhile, Tom Thumb escaped capture, wanders through the forest and meets with Thumbelina. Their approach is certainly not the best as the two scoff at each other (Tom Thumb is also shorter than Thumbelina), but in their hearts they already sense that they have made the decisive meeting for their life, but Thumbelina has already been promised marries King Mole and the two separate. Also this time Thumbina, thanks to the help of the sparrow Albertine, manages to escape from the realm of the Moles, but unfortunately they are both captured by a child hunting for collectible beetles. Thumbelina and Albertine are then locked up with some guinea pigs in the boy's laboratory, but here they organize and try to escape. Will Thumbnail and Thumbelina be able to meet again and fulfill the dream of their life?
