In the original version of the film, the voice cast includes Jamie Foxx, who voices Joe Gardner, a middle school music teacher whose true passion is playing jazz, and Tina Fey who plays 22, a still-in-training soul. who for a strange twist of fate meets Joe when the latter accidentally finds himself at the "You Seminar". Production
In January 2016, it was announced that Pete Docter, head of Pixar, was working on a new film. In June 2018, it was announced that Docter was planning to complete his film despite being named Chief Creative Officer at Pixar following the departure of John Lasseter.
In June 2019, Pixar announced a new film called Soul with the direction of Docter and the production of Dana Murray, with a synopsis published on Twitter on a cosmic journey through New York City.
Murray said the film "(will take audiences) into a world that no one has ever been in, well, for a long time," while co-writer / co-director Kemp Powers said it's "completely different" from Docter's previous films. Powers also said the film will answer important questions in "a really fun way".
Tina Fey also contributed to the script, having helped write the lines for her character.
