Troy

Achilles - Brad PittFinally, after a long wait, Troy, the latest American blockbuster by Warner Brows, directed by Wolfgang Petersen, cost over $ 180.000.000, which reconstructs the Homeric poem of the Iliad, is released in cinemas. Only the cast of actors is thrilling: Brad Pitt plays the pelide Achilles, Orlando Bloom (Legolas de "The Lord of the Rings") plays the role of Paris and for Ettore none other than Eric Bana (Hulk), we must also remember Sean Bean (the Boromir of "The Lord of the Rings") who plays Ulysses and Peter O Toole (Lawrence D Arabia) for King Priam, the beautiful Elena is instead played by the splendid Diane Kruger. The film focuses heavily on the fidelity of the historical reconstruction of Greece in 1193 BC, even if some scholars have expressed opinions with not a few perplexities regarding the armor used by Achilles. The battle scenes are undoubtedly stunning, reconstructed in a spectacular manner with the thousands of boats described in the famous epic poem. To shoot the scenes, the cast made stops in various parts of the world: Malta, England and Mexico.

Paride and ElenaThe story is the one that many of you will have learned in school by studying the Iliad, except for the fact that for technical reasons the director did not want to involve the mythological divinities, with the exception of the goddess Thetis (played by Julie Christie), mother of Achilles and goddess of the waters.
The poem narrates the ten-year war declared by the Greeks of Agamemnon against the city of Troy, in order to avenge the offense made by Paris, son of the king of Troy Priam, against the Spartan king Menelaus, guilty of having loved and kidnapped his wife Elena . The two most representative figures of this war are undoubtedly the Trojan Hector and the Greek Achilles, sworn enemies and invincible warriors. Hector (Eric Bana)As many of you know, Achilles according to Greek mythology was the son of Peleus (therefore called Pelis) and of the goddess Thetis, who immersed him in the waters of the Styx to make him invulnerable, holding him by the heel, that's why this is his only point weak. He was called for the war against Troy by Agamemnon, but he also had heated arguments with him, which made him move away from the battle. Hector is the son of King Priam and brother of Paris, unlike Achilles, despite his extraordinary strength and his ability as a leader he is a man and not a demigod. The war seems to be turning in favor of Hector's Trojans, since Achilles has decided to estrange himself from the fight, but soon something dramatic will happen that will make him change his mind in a sudden way. AchillesWhen the Trojans push the Greeks back under the ships and are about to set them on fire, Patroclus asks Achilles to go into combat, but is killed by Hector. Achilles explodes in violent anger and decides to return to the war to avenge his brotherly friend Patroclus. The duel between Hector and Achilles will take place on the Xanto river and the outcome of this clash will drastically change the fate of the battle. Do not forget the figure of Ulysses, who managed to get the Greek troops inside Troy, thanks to the famous stratagem of the wooden horse, given as a sign of peace, but which hid the Greek warriors inside.

This film, as it was for "The gladiator" will inevitably contribute to the relaunch of the historical-mythological genre, which was very popular in the 50s thanks to the various "Spartacus", "Maciste", "Ercole" etc ... This this is demonstrated by the fact that several projects of this kind are in the works, one of them all, the cinematographic reconstruction of the exploits of Alexander the Great, played once again (it is precisely his moment) by Orlando Bloom.
