AVATAR

Jake Sully and his avatarJames Cameron (the director of "Titanic", "Terminator" and "Aliens - Final Clash"), had in mind the idea of the film Avatar, 15 fifteen years ago, but the technological means for the realization of the special effects did not exist. yet. Finally after 4 of processing it comes out in all its spectacular three-dimensionality in live action.
The story takes place in 2154 and stars Jake Sully, a former Marine soldier who, having been paralyzed in the legs, is forced to move in a wheelchair. However, his spirit is always that of a warrior, so he is enlisted for an experiment that takes him to the distant planet Pandora, a moon with an environment similar to that of Earth, which orbits a giant gas planet, called Polyphemus, in the star system. Alpha Centauri, 4,4 light years away from earth. Here, the Resources Development Administration group deals with the extraction of Ubtainium, a precious mineral essential to save the earth from a severe energy shortage. Since the air on Pandora is not breathable for humans, programmers have invented a software called Avatar, able to connect the mental faculties of men with an avatar, that is a biological body operated remotely, capable of living. to the lethal air of the planet. These avatars are genetically modified beings in which the human genetic code has been combined with that of the Na'vi, the inhabitants of the planet Pandora.
Jake and NeytiriThus Jake Sully is reborn in the body of an avatar, and is free to run again and act in order to carry out an important mission: to prevent the population of Pandora from hindering the extraction of the Unobtainium.
Quaritch heads the Secops, the security services that defend Hell's Gate from the ferocious predators of Pandora and the proud Na'vi. It is an army of not too disciplined but well equipped mercenaries, equipped with heavily armed helicopter-like aircraft and gigantic "AMP Suits", combat exoskeletons.
Finding himself in danger, Jake is saved by Neytiri, a beautiful Na'vi woman, who questions his mission. Jake is hosted by the inhabitants of the planet and after overcoming a series of difficulties, he becomes a member of their tribe.
So Jake deepening his relationship with Neytiri understands the culture and needs of the Na'vi, so he decides to fight alongside them. Jake will face a final decisive test for the fate of the entire planet.
The film engages the viewer in a unique and extraordinary dimension, where a man just disembarked from the Earth begins a legendary enterprise, which will see him fight to save the inhabitants of the planet Pandora from the same human beings.

NeytiriBy partnering with Peter Jackson and his New Zealand company WETA Digital, Academy Award winner for Gollum's special effects in "The Lord of the Rings" and King Kong, James Cameron was able to infuse life into his Na'vi characters.
By means of the "performance capture" technique it was possible to make the actors act, dressing them with a 3D body that is not bound by respecting human proportions. In fact, the eyes of the Na'vi are too far apart compared to humans, as well as the slimmer build, the longer neck and the four fingers. These are the difficulties that James Cameron could not overcome with the special effects of the 90s, but thanks to modern CG techniques the characters can also have a skin that interacts with the light, as if it were real, allowing to obtain creatures that seem alive. .
Through a particular helmet that the actors were made to wear, facial expressions were captured with unprecedented clarity and precision. With the capture environment technique, the action scenes were also developed, of the movement of galloping horses and the fights between aerial devices and flying creatures.
Another revolutionary technique was the "virtual camera", which made it possible to build the scenes inside the computer generated world, just as if you were inside a real set.
The film goes a step further in terms of computer graphics, placing these photorealistic characters in a world that is also computer generated, but which seems totally real. Every plant, every rock and every tree was created and integrated into the computers of WETA Digital, New Zealand. Some significant innovations in lighting,
in shading and rendering allowed WETA to create a world
photorealistic which in the details is alien, but which appears completely natural.
