From the irreverent direction of Jimmy Hayward here comes the Italian big screen, with release scheduled for November 28, 2013, an ironic, teasing and very funny animated film. Produced by Creative Studios, the film in the USA was not particularly successful.

The plot revolves around the mission of liberation not of a turkey, but of all turkeys, since the seventeenth century queen dish of the Thanksgiving day menu. Reggie, the protagonist, is a turkey different from the others in appearance and character. Shunned by its fellows because it has blue instead of red head plumage, the turkey sees its fellow sufferers with critical eyes. In vain he tries to make them understand that all the food that is distributed is only to make them fat and that it will lead to their death.

Their fate is sealed, especially as Thanksgiving approaches. But a turkey will be saved by the President of the United States. During the President's speech, the daughter chooses Reggie from all the turkeys to be taken away from the farm. A new life made of ease and privileges begins for him. With a lot of furry pink slippers, he becomes the best friend of the weird girl who occasionally falls into a deep sleep, but only after warning.

Reggie, lying in his bed, orders pizza delivered to him by a stoned delivery boy and which we will find again at the end of the film, while watching his favorite soap opera. But one evening he is kidnapped by another turkey, the big, muscular Jake who recruits him for a special mission, to eliminate turkeys from the Thanksgiving menu. To accomplish the mission they have to go back to the past with the time machine built by the US Army. The two turkeys enter the basement where this is kept and manage to take control of it. The nonsense of the guards is hilarious, like the one about a soldier who, having detected a foreign presence, asks a colleague "How do we treat them?"

Jake and Raggie, who climbed onto Stevie, the egg-shaped time machine, are screened in 1621 where a group of settlers is preparing preparations for Thanksgiving. The turkeys of the future meet those of the past, turkeys that live in the wild, with both red and blue plumage, such as Reggie, and which are represented as the American Indians, with feathers and war signs painted on the face. Wild turkeys are forced to live in the shadows so as not to get caught by hunters. The wise leader, with his daughter Jenny and his brother, leads the group as best they can, until Jakie instigates them to rebellion.

Reggie, nice but a bit clumsy, can't resist Jenny's charm, even if the beautiful turkey has a small defect, when she is nervous an eye goes haywire which she puts back in place by blowing her nose. The turkey of the future asks her to leave with him when the mission is complete, but the turkey refuses, saying that her place is there. Meanwhile, the hunters have captured two of the wild turkeys. A plan is made. Jake, strong in his vocation, is part of the Tacchini Liberation Front, never misses an opportunity to enter into open conflict with the burly son of the tribal chief.

Together with his adventure companion Reggie, he goes to the human village and carries out his plan, steal the horn with the gunpowder of the head of the hunters, Myles Standish, and set the hut of weapons on fire. The operation ends successfully and the two prisoners are released. Unfortunately, however, Jake, who shines for physical prowess but not for sagacity, drops a trace of gunpowder that leads the settler hunters to the hideout of the wild turkeys. The hunters have the upper hand and most of the turkeys are captured.

Jake is concerned with saving the eggs and the chicks, mindful of his past. In fact, in a flashback, the beefy turkey tells Reggie his story. Raised in an intensive industrial farm, he was saved by his mother who prevented him from eating too much so as not to gain weight like all the other turkeys in the area. The young Jake would thus have had the possibility to escape and to rescue three eggs, but due to a miscalculation he manages to escape but loses the precious cargo. After that unfortunate occasion he is recruited by the Great Turkey who entrusts him with the rescue mission.

Touching is the scene in which the tribe leader is trapped to allow Jenny, Reggie and Jake to escape. Jenny is held back by Reggie as her father encourages her by saying "I'll always be with you". The shelter is on fire. A handful of turkeys are saved, the heir appointed by the tribe leader will be Jenny who takes command of the situation. Reggie realizes that he will never go with him and discouraged he goes back to the future where he runs into three other Reggies who come from future neighbors and instruct him to go back to support the rebels. On that occasion he discovers that he is the Great Turkey and that he has the sacred handle of time.

Back in the past Reggie reunites with the group, but not without surprises. Thanks to a funny and unimaginable stratagem, he manages to give a positive turn to the end of the film. An hour and twenty of fun for the whole family between witty jokes and funny allusions, as well as an all-vegan message that puts the animals' point of view in the foreground. Perhaps in America the message has not been successful enough, but the soundtrack and a successful animation technique will perhaps have a different outcome in Italy.
