In this corner of the world, a 2016 film co-written and directed by Sunao Katabuchi. Produced by MAP, the film is the anime adaptation of the manga Kono sekai no katasumi ni by Fumiyo Kono. Kono herself also wrote a literary transposition of the film with the collaboration of Yohei Maita, published in Japan by Futabasha. The film premiered at the Tokyo International Film Festival on October 28, 2016 and released in Japanese cinemas by Tokyo Theaters KK on November 12.
Based on the manga by Fumiyo Kouno which tells the story of Suzu Uranus in Kure, Hiroshima, during the Second World War. The protagonist is in fact a young Japanese woman, a dreamer and full of life, who goes to marry an employee of the Ministry of Justice in the city of Kure immediately before the release of the atomic bomb, in the dramatic days of the conflict that marked in a profound and the history of Japan is indelible. In Kure, Suzu will meet a new friend, Rin Shiroki, a new family, a new city and, finally, her new world.
Suzu's life is thrown into chaos when his city is bombed by the Americans during World War II. His perseverance and courage are the basis of this story that comforts and is inspired by the daily challenges of the Japanese, in the midst of a violent and war-torn country. This beautiful and remarkable testimony shows that even in the face of adversity and the loss of loved ones, people can come together and rebuild their lives.
