KEN THE WARRIOR
The legend of the true savior

From 13 July 2011 to the cinema

What we are going to tell is the story of Kenshiro that no one has ever talked about, the one that covers the time span that goes from the defeat suffered by Shin to the meeting with the little Bart and Lynn. This film tells the events that will awaken in him the courage and determination necessary to follow his destiny as a savior. At the end of the 21st century the earth was devastated by a terrible nuclear conflict which led humanity to social and environmental collapse. Gangs of criminals plunder and assault the settlements of the survivors and the law of the strongest prevails over the innocent and the defenseless. In misery and suffering, only faith remains in the arrival of a new savior: Kenshiro. After defeating Raoul, the self-proclaimed King of Hokuto, Ken can finally hug his beloved Julia again and the two can fulfill their dream of love. Kenshiro's destiny, as the sole heir of the Divine School of Hokuto and savior of the oppressed, has long been sealed, and now is the time to tell Julia how it all began. Kenshiro, the successor of the Divine School of Hokuto, was defeated by Shin, the successor of Nanto's Lonely Eagle Fist. The latter, after having kidnapped his beloved Julia, inflicted seven deep wounds on his chest, arranged like the seven stars of the Big Dipper. After the tragic episode, Ken is captured by a gang of slave traders and taken to a fortress city forcibly controlled by Governor Siska. Kenshiro is imprisoned, forced into a duel in an arena and crucified. Tried in body and soul, thanks to the meeting with Fugen, an elderly martial arts master, Ken manages to find the necessary courage to react and fulfill his destiny, as Hokuto's legitimate successor. Thus, while the city is besieged by Jugai, a rebel warrior from the Nanto school, Kenshiro decides to intervene and put an end to the abuses. This battle thus marks the beginning of the long path that will lead Ken to become the long-awaited Savior.

You are now dead : They have passed 25 years from the first time you heard this joke on TV, which later became very famous. It was the animated series Ken the warrior (Hokuto no Ken), based on the comic of the same name (1983) created by the duo Buronson e Tetsuo Hara, a work considered in the world of Japanese comics and Ken the warrior is a witness to the prolific Japanese production of the early 80s and anticipated other successful series such as The Knights of the Zodiac , Dragon Ball and City Hunter .
The saga can be compared to that of Star Wars for its evolution multi-generational - understood both in terms of viewers and in reference to the generations of characters involved in the events narrated - and for its multi-support development: comics, television series, feature films, OAVs (films designed for home video distribution) and merchandising. Moreover, although the references to the ancient oriental arts are clear, the characterization of the characters as mythical heroes, the love affairs that act as a trait-d union, the great ideals for which they are called to sacrifice, bring Ken the warrior closer to a epic western-style storytelling. In the past, the authors Buronson and Tetsuo Hara, due to the serialization of the story of their comic, decided to focus almost exclusively on the action aspect of the story, thus leaving out episodes that would have exposed the sentimental side and the profile too much. psychological warriors, thus avoiding the risk of diverting attention from the more purely heroic and combative development of the adventures of the protagonist Kenshiro. The same line was also adopted for the television series produced by Toei Animation and aired in Japan for the first time from 1984 to 1988 [now available in full version in DVD Yamato video].

As in previous episodes, we will find the voices of Lorenzo Scattorin (Kenshiro) and Patrizia Mottola (Julia). On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the birth of Ken the warrior, the public will finally be able to enjoy the spectacular images and memorable action sequences that have contributed to making Kenshiro an intergenerational hero still today capable of thrilling millions of fans around the world.

CHARACTERS

The appearance of the characters refers from an iconographic point of view "to some famous identities: Ken appears at times a Sylvester Stallone in the physiognomy and a Bruce Lee in the movements, Toky is a saving representation of a Jesus inspired by philosophy rather than by a religious message, Raoul is instead a concentration of the darker Arnold Schwarzenegger and the marauders seem to come out of the films of the Mad Max1 cycle ”.

Kenshiro he is the youngest of Hokuto's three brothers and heir to the Hokuto Shinken, a terrifying and deadly Kenpo with a history spanning 1800 years. In a world devastated by atomic bombings and dominated by violence, Kenshiro has been entrusted, by the stars of Ursa Major, with the task of fighting for the reconquest and defense of the love that has apparently disappeared from people's hearts. The numerous and violent fights in which Ken faces powerful and ruthless adversaries and the countless separations from the people dear to him will make him grow, making him the true savior that the world needs.

RAOUL he is the eldest of Hokuto's three brothers. His only desire is to conquer absolute power. Calling himself 'the ruler of the century' and driven by his almost obsessive desire to centralize everything in the palm of his hand using the tools of force and terror, he continues to fight, gradually becoming the most powerful man of his time. However, under the thick skin of a hard man and behind his words devoid of humanity, there is a deep love.

JULIA Backed by the star of motherly love, she is the only woman Ken has ever loved. Thirsty for power, Shin kidnaps Julia, but when he realizes what the real destiny awaits her is, he decides to let her free: she will become the Last General of the Nanto school and will intertwine her destiny with that of Kenshiro and Raoul, also in love with the beautiful warrior.

THE AUTHORS
As happened with the comic, also on the occasion of this project Tetsuo Hara, the co-author of the original story Buronson and Nobuhiko Horie, who at the time of the comic was editor of the magazine on which 'Hokuto no Ken' was serialized, reunited, who today holds the role of executive producer and screenwriter of the feature film. With this trio the same understanding was re-established as it once was, giving rise to a great energy which has resulted in an excellent work directed by Toshiki Hirano.

TETSUO HARA. One of the two Japanese historical authors of 'Ken the Warrior', Tetsuo Hara, participated in the animated project 'The Legend of the True Savior' as a supervisor of the drawings. Tetsuo Hara, born in 1961, began his career as a draftsman early on entering the prestigious manga school, Kazuko Koike. In 1982 he won the Fresh Jump award, for young talents, with the manga “Super Challenger”. In the wake of this success he designed "Mad Fighter", an explicit homage to "Mad Max". In 1983 he created two stories of Ken the warrior for the Shonen Jump house, which tell of his adolescence: the project pleases the publisher and the public. In a short time, flanked by screenwriter Buronson, "Ken the warrior" becomes a successful manga. Tetsuo Hara has never hidden his desire to create something that no one had ever created before, to create a work that could 'last' over time, a comic that could arouse strong emotions even in people who would have lived 100 years after the his death ... and it would seem that with 'Hokuto no Ken' he has achieved his goal, considering the countless animated and even paper transpositions made in the last 25 years.
In the ten years that followed the first publication of the comic, Hara sought inspiration in the works of the famous novelist, Keichiro Ryu. He alternates his career as a draftsman with that of illustrator for novels and that of character-designer for video games.
Hara's opinion towards all the staff members is very high: according to Hara, the high quality of the drawings is due exclusively to the great talent and irrepressible enthusiasm of all the people who worked on the project.

Buronson. Born in 1947, he made his debut as an assistant for the manga “Salary Man Kintaro”. His pseudonym is a tribute to Charles Bronson, Buronson (Japanese pronunciation). His first great success dates back to 1975: Doberman Detective, which allows him to be hired by the publisher Shueisha to join Hara in the manga "Ken the warrior". In the 90s he worked with Rochi Ikegami with whom he made three works for adults: “Sanctuary” (1990), “Strain” (1997) and “Heat” (1999). Since 2001 he has worked again with Hara on the “Ken. Fist of the blue sky ”, which tells the origins of Hokuto.

NOBUHIKO HORIE - Executive producer and screenwriter
As editor-in-chief of the weekly "Shonen Jump" he boasts the achievement of 6.530.000 copies sold. He was also editor-in-chief of the magazines "Men's non no" and "BART". With the foundation of Coamix in June 2000 he was entrusted with the position of managing director. By now creating products as Planning manager, author and screenwriter, he is always able to obtain the highest quality thanks to his past experiences as an editor.
