From 20 April 2012 you will be able to take your children to see a splendid animated film with highly educational contents: we are talking about Leafie - The story of a love. Animation cinema has accustomed us to this kind of narration: we enter the animal world and we are passionate about the events of the cute birds or the fish in the middle of the ocean or the mammoths that populated the poles during the ice age. This time we stay in a chicken coop where we meet a very brave hen: she is Leafie. The life of the chicken coop is known, it is difficult especially if you are a hen! There is always the "cock" of the situation that he wants to command. Outside the chicken coop, however, there is a whole world to discover and Leafie realizes it. What can be done? Leaving the place that is supposed to give security, but which is really just the place to stay while awaiting a dark-colored destiny? We all know the end of a hen even if it is bad to say, unfortunately there will be a bad butcher who will decide what to do with them! Leafie, however, is not there and decides to leave her chicken coop. However, he will immediately realize that things are not simple, not even outside the walls of the chicken coop and that the outside world is not inhabited only by good animals. A new friend will think about giving her a smile back: it is Wanderer, a beautiful duck who will make her understand that even outside the chicken coop, despite the difficulties, you live well. The magic of this idyll, however, will be broken immediately, due to one of the antagonists of this story. The villain of the situation is One Eye, a weasel who, with his despot character, imposes orders on everyone.

Distinguished by an ugly scar on its head (it lost an eye fighting against the big duck) the weasel is responsible for the death of a duck, which left a small orphaned duckling.
Leafie can't help but take the little one into her custody, but she isn't a duck and can't do all the things the little one might want. The other animals also make fun of her, for the difference between the two species. Fortunately, however, there are also good animals in the swamp, such as Mayor an otter who is always attentive to his look, who loves to direct the actions of his friends.

Leafie tries them all so as not to look different from whose little duckling, for example, puts leaves under her legs to try to have them webbed like a duck's, but the mission is not an easy one! One thing is certain: she is willing to do everything for her little one. After all, she loved the little duckling, even before he was born. In fact, he found the egg that kept it and hatched it. After he was born, he immediately gave him a name: he thought of calling him Greenie because of a green speck that the puppy has on his head (the translation of green in Italian is green).
There will be many adventures to share with other animals, but Leafie will never leave her little Greenie even when he grows up, he realizes that he is different from his mother. Leafie doesn't listen to anyone's words, not even the ones that hurt the most. To teach them to swim she even dives into the swamp pond: she is ready to do anything for him. He will be close to his puppy who is now grown even when he will have to learn to fly and overcome races. Leafie hopes for a different fate for Greenie than hers and hopes that she can do everything in life that she hasn't done. But once again fate will play its part: the owner of the chicken coop captures Greenie. When the hen finds out, she immediately runs to her aid.

Will she be able to free her little one? He must continue to fly high: life is not just swamp and chicken coop, but there is a world to be discovered and freedom is what the two must have.
The ending of the film is characterized by the triumph of love: the love of a mother for her baby who, even if he has grown up, will always remain her puppy; the love of a little duckling who has become independent by now but will never deny his mother (and when he does, he will realize he was wrong); since at the beginning the twist with the death of Wanderer had made us cry, there will be no other sad twists.

The Manhwa genre (Korean comics and cartoons) is making its way more and more worldwide and this animated film is a splendid example of the quality level reached by South Korean productions. In this case we also notice a notable stylistic detachment from to other more successful Korean cartoons and comics, such as Pucca where a clear Japanese influence emerges. Leafie, on the other hand, seems to be closer to a Western style both in the drawings and in the acting interpretation of the characters and in particular on the script. the story is very reminiscent of the "Seagull and the cat", but serves as a starting point to explore important issues, such as the acceptance of diversity, unconditional love and adoption. If you want an animated film that is fun, but at the same time educational for your children, Leafie is just the thing for you, but be careful to accept also dramatic scenes, also present in the Disney classics.
