The film's soundtrack will be signed by Alan Menken, winner of eight Academy Awards®, two of which he received for the 1991 animated classic, and will include new recordings of the original songs written by Menken and Howard Ashman and three new songs written by Menken along with three Academy Award® winner Tim Rice.
"It is truly an honor to be able to create a film that pays homage to the original while offering a modernized version of it”, Explains the director. "But it's also quite a daunting task. “This is a story that has taken many forms over the years and has been told in multiple different languages - having the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies and such a wonderful cast is truly a blessing. I hope that, being such a beloved film, we will be able to answer questions fans didn't even know they had about Belle and the Beast, and how they became the people they are.".
More than 1000 people worked around the clock to build and decorate the impressive sets, giving the film an incredible amount of craftsmanship. Four Academy Award® nominated production designer Sarah Greenwood was looking for a timeless European style, in the tradition of great Hollywood romantic epics. The set designers spent several months studying 24th century architecture and interior design to create the Prince / Beast's castle. Eventually they used a combination of various architectural styles, mainly inspired by French Rococo, a style used predominantly in France in the first half of the 24s. The floor design of the iconic ballroom is instead inspired by a pattern on the ceiling of the Benedictine abbey of Braunau, Germany. The west wing, into which the Beast often retreats, is the epicenter of the spell and its design reflects the Italian Baroque, which has a more sinister and darker aspect, while the design of the castle library is based on that of a famous library located in Portugal.
