TOY STORY 3 - The great escape
On July 7, Toy Story 3 The Great Escape, the third sequel to the animation masterpiece, which in 1995 paved the way for 3D cinema, will be released in cinemas. The protagonists Woody, Buzz and their toy friends, will have to face the dramatic moment of separation with their beloved Andy. He is now seventeen and has been storing his toys in a trunk for some time. Now is the time to move to college, so her mother is urging her to get rid of her toys as soon as possible and gift them to Sunnyside Kindergarten. How will Andy and his companions react to this incredible shock?
The film was directed by Lee Unkrich (co-director of “Toy Story 2 Woody and Buzz to the Rescue” and “Finding Nemo”) and made in Disney Digital 3D ™.
Andy the cowboy, Buzz the space agent, Jessie the cowgirl, Hamm the pig, Mr and Mrs Potato, Rex the dinosaur, Slinky the spring dog and Barbiethey will be mistakenly sent to kindergarten where they will get acquainted with other toys. Everyone appears happy except Woody, still convinced that their role is always to stay with Andy, even if he has decided to put them in the attic, contrary to the wishes of his mother. The first encounter with the rowdy kindergarten children is terrible, as they will be taken to the earthworm room, the one intended for the little ones under 3 years old, who do not yet know how to use delicacy and imagination to make toys move.
In addition to a compelling and adventurous story, the film also addresses important issues, such as that of radical changes in life. Woody has to accept the fact that Andy won't be able to play with them anymore because he's grown up. Andy himself will have to prepare to leave his beloved bedroom and his childhood memories, while his mother will have to agree to see him leave without her maternal protection.
To enrich this film with many peculiarities there will be new toys, such as Ken who will love at first sight for Barbie. The two will play the part of amorous and ridiculous sweethearts, due to their stereotypical and hilarious attitudes, which follow the lifestyle dictated by their merchandising. In this Barbie film, she will have a very important role compared to Toy Story 2, as she will also be able to bring out her adventurous and selfless spirit. Like any love story, the relationship with Ken is also full of obstacles, but in this situation there will be implications full of twists. Ken has some comic sides, as despite being handsome and expert in clothing, in certain situations he demonstrates all the maniacality of his narcissism.
At the head of the new toys we find the big teddy bear hugs Lotso (voiced by Riccardo Garrone), who presents to Woody and his companions the kindergarten in all its departments: from the super-equipped house of Ken, to the room for the repair of broken toys. However, Lotso's personality will have some unpleasant implications for our heroes. Lotso's right arm is the giant baby doll, with an unsettling appearance due to a half-open eye. We also find the Twitch warrior bug, armored monster Chunk, the robot Sparks,
the chatty phone (voiced by Gerry Scotti) and the Bookworm lamp. To these will be added the toys of Bonnie, a sweet and imaginative little girl, the daughter of a woman who works at Sunnyside. Bonnie will meet Andy to whom she will introduce Mr Prickles, the porcupine with aristocratic ways, the white unicorn Cone di Panna , Trixie the plastic trencher with a passion for online conversation, Dolly the rag doll , the Bisi and Bisi peas closed in their pods and surprisingly too Totoro (a tribute from John Lasseter to his esteemed friend Hayao Miyazaki).
We find themes that bind all the Toy Story films. In the first the theme is that of emotional uniqueness, as Woody is worried about the arrival of Buzz Lightyear, who oust him from the role of Andy's favorite toy. Toy Story 2 also deals with the theme of affectivity, but in this case the toys will have to decide whether to stay new, but set aside, or dented, but taken into consideration by Andy. In Toy Story 3 Woody and his companions will have to take note of Andy's change and therefore of the inevitable passage of time. What plagues all toys is the idea of not being considered by children anymore. When it is ruined, it can be repaired; when lost, it can be found, when stolen, it can be recovered, but there is no remedy when it is useless for children. For this reason, every Toy Story film is capable of transmitting ever new emotions, where the characters face the same basic problems as real people: friendship, growth and the great changes in life.
The film is compelling and you are immediately captured by the story as it was developed with a perfect narrative rhythm, enriched by spectacular special effects. The team is the same that made the previous Pixar films. In addition to director Lee Unkrich, the group includes John Lasseter, Andrew Stanton (who co-wrote the screenplay for Toy Story and Toy Story 2, and who wrote and directed Finding Nemo e Wall-E), Pete Docter (director / writer of Monster & Co. E UP), Darla K. Anderson, Bob Peterson and Jeff Pigeon.
The voices of the characters are always the same, with Fabrizio Frizzi playing Woody and Massimo Dapporto for the voice of Buzz Lightyear. Barbie was voiced by Claudia Gerini, while Ken's voice is that of Fabio De Luigi. The soundtrack was again entrusted to Randy Newman, who also created a captivating piece of music.
In Toy Story 3 the 3D graphics have improved enormously compared to the previous Toy Story 2, thanks to the use of new technologies. Just see the naturalness of human characters like Andy and his dog, to be speechless. One of the biggest challenges of the film was to take advantage of the technological advances in computer animation that have taken place over the last 15 years (since 1995, to the debut of the historic Toy Story), while maintaining the look and the charm. of the original film. All the characters have been rebuilt from scratch and in this it has undoubtedly gained their expressiveness.
