Yattaman - The movie

Ganchan and Janet - Yattaman the filmGanchan and his girlfriend Janet build extraordinary robots and when the world is in danger they transform into Yattaman superheroes. The opportunity for a new venture arises when the young Shoko asks for their help to find her father, who disappeared in the Negitto while he was on the trail of one of the four fragments of the powerful Dokrostone Stone. But someone else is looking for the mythical Stone. They are the bitter enemies of the Yattaman: the Drombo Band, composed of the beautiful and wicked Miss Dronio, and her minions Boyakki and Tonzula. The Drombo, with the help of the mysterious Doctor Drokobei, wage a hard battle with the Yattaman for the possession of the Dokrostone ... and for the fate of the world.

Yattaman has finally turned into a highly anticipated film. The animated series aired for the first time in Japan in January 1971 and still holds the record for the longest series, with 108 episodes scheduled over 2 years, obtaining the result of 28,4% of the audience. Yattaman, thanks to its extraordinary popularity, has even introduced new words into the Japanese lexicon. Ganchan, the mischievous hero, and Janet, his girlfriend, are Yattaman1 and Yattaman 2, the heroes of justice, always fighting with the Drombo Gang, their sworn enemies. The characters of the cartoon are original, well characterized and very innovative for the time. The stories tend to follow a reiterated plot but still remain remarkably unique in their madness and paradoxical humor. At the end of the record series, the Yattaman-inspired gadget craze began that lasted through two generations of viewers. This enduring attachment to the cartoon convinced the creators to produce a new series in 2008, featuring the same sharp dialogue and flights of fancy.
the Drombo Band - Yattaman the filmWho could have imagined that Yattaman would become a hugely popular live-action movie? Which real-life actor could have played the role of an animation character? The most difficult roles were undoubtedly those of Yattaman 1 and Yattaman 2, the sexy Miss Dronio, Boyakki (the brilliant mechanic) and Tonzula (the strong fighter). The actor, singer and TV presenter Sho Sakurai, has succeeded in the difficult task of giving a face to Yattaman 1. Saki Fukuda instead plays the role of Janet, or Yattaman 2, the girl of Yattaman 1. Saki gives character to the character, giving the best in action scenes. But who plays the very sensual Miss Dronio, perhaps the most loved character of the series? Kyoko Fukada gives it a perfect characterization, different from the original, but with a high dose of charm and adolescent purity. Boyakki's role seems tailor-made for Katuhisa Namase, an actor with great comedic skills. Kendo Kobayashi, a rising star of comedy, makes his big screen debut in the role of Tonzula. The key role of Dr. Kaida is skilfully played by Sadao Abe, who had to contend with the many facets of a highly characterized character.
Genius director Takashi Miike said: I can't die without bringing Yattaman to the big screen first . His passion for the subject is measured by the compelling and compelling performances he got from his cast. The film, in fact, is full of surprises, with costumes and sets that are nothing short of fantastic.
The film is not only aimed at children. The themes that intertwine in the film make it suitable for a much wider audience. It is a story about the daily struggle between the Yattaman and the King of thieves Doctor Dokrobei for the possession of the Skull Stone, the Dokrostone. Compared to the cartoon, the sentimental relationship between the two Yattaman takes on even greater importance. In short, a truly innovative film and not comparable to any other.
