Kathy Kane is a comic book character created by Bob Kane and Sheldon Moldoff in Detective Comics n. 233 in 1956. She wears the Batwoman costume.
The modern incarnation of Batwoman is Kate Kane, who first appears during week 7 of the maxi-series 52 (2006). It operates in Gotham City during Batman's absence due to the events of Infinite Crisis (2005). This modern day Batwoman is homosexual, as DC Comics wanted to put more diversity into their publications.
Kathy Kane is a cousin of Bruce Wayne. She wears the Batwoman costume to fight alongside Batman, but Batman tries to dissuade her. Later, he will team up with Betty Kane, his niece, who wears the Batgirl costume. While Kathy falls in love with Batman, Betty only has eyes for Robin (Dick Grayson).
After Betty's departure, Kathy teams up with the new Batgirl, Barbara Gordon. As Batman gets closer and closer to Catwoman1, Kathy Kane retires from the middle of superheroes. She is left dead by Bronze Tiger, a member of the League of Shadows, a team of villains led by Ra's al Ghul.
The original Batwoman appears during the Silver Age. It first appears in Detective Comics n. 233 (July 1956) 5. Like Batman, he fought crime. Bob Kane explained that he was inspired by his wife to draw Batwoman. The fact that he called her "Kathy Kane" confirms this theory. However, Kane's "shadow artists" Sheldon Moldoff and Dick Sprang, who worked on Batman in the 50s, questioned the real influence Bob Kane had in the Batman stories.
