Red Hood is a cartoon character created by Bill Finger, Lew Sayre Schwartz and Win Mortimer in Detective Comics n. 168 in 19511. More than a character, the Red Hood is a costume that will be worn by many people.
The Joker wore a purple suit and the Red Hood mask: a red helmet with no opening. The mask works as a one-way mirror, it had to be able to see perfectly (which is not really the case: the mask reduces its field of view, adds a red tint and amplifies ambient sounds, making awkward shots) but not to be seen.
The criminals used this detail to convince their victims, because they can commit crimes without being worried, since they cannot be recognized.
Jason Todd is wearing jeans, a bulletproof vest (where the Batman logo is sometimes drawn), a leather jacket and a modern Red Hood mask (with two eye openings). He also wears a mask similar to the one he wore as Robin under his helmet.
The members of the Red Hood gang all wear a mask that covers their entire face, with the notable exception of the one worn by the leader of the gang which reveals his mouth.
The Joker was a psycho, but when he fell into the acid tank, after seeing his clown face I go completely insane.
Jason was hungry for revenge and power. He first hits the Joker with a crowbar, the same weapon with which the Joker killed him, then opposes the various gangsters of Gotham (including the Black Mask) to become Gotham's supreme boss.
In the new 52 comics, the gang leader seems very confident and very arrogant.
