Batman of the future or Batman Beyond in its original version is an animated television series of 52 episodes, 25 minutes, created after the character of Bob Kane and Bill Finger in 1939, aired between January 10, 1999 and December 18, 2001 in the block of Kids' WB programs on The WB.
The first episode of the series shows us Bruce Wayne, who no longer has the physical strength to continue his crusade as Batman, unarmed, finally retired. Twenty years later, Terry McGinnis, a "tough" teenager, meets XNUMX-year-old Bruce Wayne, still alive, struggling with a gang of thugs (wildcard). The rather quarrelsome young man runs off the attackers next to Wayne and accompanies Bruce to his villa where he lives as a recluse, with his dog Ace for company only. There, inadvertently, Terry McGinnis discovers the Batcave and realizes that its host is none other than what was previously known as Batman.
When Terry McGinnis' father, a Wayne-Powers Industries employee, discovers a biological weapons trade orchestrated by his employer Derek Powers, he is killed. The young man turns to Bruce Wayne, the company's shareholder, for help, but advises him to contact Commissioner Barbara Gordon. Terry McGinnis then enters the Batcave at night to steal Batman's latest suit: high-tech equipment that allowed him to continue the fight despite his advanced age. After Terry McGinnis has shut down the actions of Derek Powers, crime and corruption reigning in the heart of Gotham City, Bruce Wayne agrees to let Terry take the Batman crusade under his tutelage. Become the new Gotham City vigilante.
Terry McGinnis is facing his own group of villains from Gotham City of the future: the voluptuous shapeshifter Inque, the hypnotist Spellbinder, expert on ultrasound screeching, gangster named Bane radioactive, the killer the curare, the criminal organization Cobra, the terrorist Mad Stan, the Royal Flush family gang and the African stalker Stalker. On several occasions, Terry McGinnis also faces old enemies of his mentor, such as Mr. Freeze, Bane (old, dying, the body destroyed by the doping substance that gave him his strength), multiple centenary of Ra al Ghul, the Band of the Royal Flush, and even, in the film, a resurrected Joker.
