Devilman is a manga by Go Nagai, published between 1972 and 1973 in Weekly Shonen Magazine and published in five volumes bound by Kodansha. It has been adapted to cartoons, OAVs, as well as animated films and action films.
Akira Fudo, a young, insecure and insecure boy, is unable to defend his abused friend from thugs. That's when his childhood friend Ryô comes to his rescue armed with a rifle. Its presence is anything but fortuitous; came to him to reveal his terrible discovery: demons exist and are about to wake up from their polar prison (the frozen hell that Dante Alighieri had frequented).
Former inhabitants of the Earth, who lived before in a period of perennial war in which there was only the law of the strongest and where every day brought its share of massacres, the demons even begin to merge with men. This was the case with Ryô's father: a great researcher who had gone half mad, he began slaughtering their pets before wanting to harm his son, then finally decided to end his life by burning himself. until he had a semblance of reason.
Ryo warns Akira: the only way to fight the demons will be to become one. Pressed by time and the appearance of the first demons, they find themselves forced to organize a Sabbath, a black mass as Ryô explains it to his incredulous and naive friend. But his resolution is made, even if it is at the cost of his life or his humanity, he will become a man-demon, the only bulwark of humanity against this prehistoric enemy.
Afterward, Akira will have to do everything to preserve her humanity. His faith in the human species will be challenged by the general panic that will be created by the arrival of demons, where a modern Inquisition will stand up as the protector of society and where denunciation will become a common method.
A troubled atmosphere of paranoia, hatred and distrust that recalls the dark hours of human history. Will man be able to resist the enemy or, on the contrary, will his selfishness, his own fear and his own stupidity lead to his destruction?
