Once upon a time there were the 60s, 70s and 80s. Years in which afternoons were long, snacks were made of bread and chocolate, and time was measured in episodes of cartoons, "bike rides" and stories invented with a doll held tightly in the hands. In that world, made of simple but sincere things, Migliorati dolls were more than toys: they were confidants, imaginary sisters, princesses and miniature mothers.

Migliorati was born in Italy, in an era in which toys were still seen as something to be carefully constructed, with solid materials and a very specific vision: to give shape to children's imagination. The first dolls of this historic house did not focus only on aesthetics - which was certainly there - but on the possibility of stimulating a real, active game, made of emotions, roles and imagination.

There was everything in the Migliorati catalog: from newborn baby dolls — like Ciccinobello, Ciuffolo, Rotombolino — to cradle and swaddle, to dolls for walking, dressed like little ladies with lace, hats and pastel-colored dresses. And then the special series: the Birichine, with those funny names and mischievous faces, the Fanny, icons of 70s elegance, and the soft Spumone, who seemed to have come out of a fairy tale made of cotton and colored yarns.
Each doll had a strong identity: there was the one with the beach dress, the one that “really tans,” the one with mechanisms that laughed, cried or talked. Some even had accessories that today seem like vintage science fiction: inflatable mattresses, squeaky pacifiers, princess gazebos.

In the 1960s, Italy experienced an economic and cultural boom. Even in the world of toys, there was excitement and a desire to do well. The first Migliorati were born in this context: dolls with a classic beauty, elegant, with rigid bodies in hard plastic (polyethylene), often colored in shades of cream or pale pink.
The design is inspired by the ideal of femininity of the time: painted eyes (or sometimes mobile), small mouths, synthetic hair implanted lock by lock, often teased in a “bon ton” style. Clothes sewn by hand with simple but refined fabrics. Many of these dolls, today, are collector's items due to their retro charm and construction quality.

70s – Realism and Variety: The Game Becomes More “Real”
With the Seventies, tastes change and so do games. Migliorati dolls become more realistic: newborn baby dolls begin to be produced, with softer features and childish proportions. It is the era in which characters like Ciuffolo or Birichina are born, with round faces, livelier expressions and minimal interactivity (a few squeaks, eyes that close, small sounds).
Materials: Polyethylene gives way to soft vinyl, more pleasant to the touch and more suitable to simulate the skin of a newborn. The bodies are often mixed: head and limbs in vinyl, torso in rigid plastic or even stuffed. The idea is to make the doll more cuddly.
From the design point of view, variety is making its way: dolls with colored hair, dolls dressed in a beach, sports, princess, or housewife style. The game opens up to many “careers” and reflects the changing society.

80s – Technology, Softness and Iconic Characters
In the 1980s, the real boom of Migliorati dolls came into play. It was the time of Spumone, soft cloth dolls with very sweet vinyl faces, and hair made of wool or colored yarn. They hugged like stuffed animals, but had the charm of a classic doll.
Here the main material is padded fabric, but with details in plastic or vinyl. Technologies advance: many dolls begin to speak, cry, move their arms or heads through simple but innovative mechanisms for the time. "Interactive" dolls become a dream for every little girl.
Even the colors change: pastel tones, lilac, fuchsia, dresses full of details. It is the era of personalized lines, with names, accessories (strollers, mattresses, bottles, cribs) and strong themes: the world of school, the sea, princesses.

90s – Decline and “plasticization” of the dream
In the 1990s, the average quality of toys tends to decline, due to production increasingly oriented towards savings and competition from international brands. Migliorati also suffers the blow. The new dolls have more simplified designs, cheaper materials, even if some series (such as those inspired by cartoons of the time) retain a certain charm.
Vinyl remains, but it is often thinner, the joints are less refined, the eyes less deep. However, the brand maintains a certain dignity, thanks also to the nostalgia of parents who, remembering their games, choose Migliorati for their children.

Today – Rediscovery and affectionate collecting
Today, vintage Migliorati are objects of research, exchange and love by collectors. The quality of the materials, the variety of models and the often tender design make them perfect for display, restoration or simply kept as a childhood memory.
Many collectors restore hair, wash original clothes, reconstruct sound mechanisms. The beauty is that each doll carries with it not only a manufacturing process, but a personal story. And the materials - even the simple ones - resist, if treated with love.

In conclusion
Behind a Migliorati doll there is not only plastic or fabric. There is a philosophy: to create objects capable of making people play, feel emotions and grow. Every decade has brought something new, but the soul has remained the same: that of a doll made to be loved.
