Characters

Princess Tiabienie that Bean

Princess Tiabienie that Bean (voiced in the original by Abbi Jacobson) is Dreamland's drunken teenage princess. Bean, as the main character of the entire series, is the daughter of King Zøg and Queen Dagmar, but after Dagmar accidentally poisoned herself, Zøg married Queen Oona, who became Bean's stepmother. In the ninth episode, "To your own elf be sincere“, Bean must choose to revive Dagmar or Elf, both previously dead, with the Pendant of Eternity. Bean chooses Dagmar, who angers Elf when he arrives in Hell and sees his decision. Dagmar orchestrates the fall of Dreamland and takes Bean on a boat to Maru, where Dagmar came from, to meet the whole family.

Bean often sneaks into the local bar, The Flying Scepter (later renamed Hell of Lights after Luci won the bar in a Popeye contest), to get away from her royal duties, and returns to the castle drunk. Bean's full name is actually Tiabeanie Mariabeanie la Rochambeau Grunkowitz, but she calls herself “Drunkowitz” whenever she's drunk, producer Josh Weinstein announced on Twitter following the release of the first season.

At the end of the first season, Tiabeanie falls into the Catacombs, the tunnels that run under Dreamland's castle, and meets Dagmar, who asks for a hug. At the start of the second season, Bean is angry with Dagmar for trying to get close to her. It is proposed to her by Alva Gunderson in the third part, as Alva wants to access her magic. Bean is crowned queen after Zøg is deemed too crazy and unfit to rule the kingdom.

The second season of the series reveals that Bean is bisexual.

Elf

Elfo (voiced by Nat Faxon) is the companion of Princess Bean, a socially clumsy and shy elf and a friend of Luci. At the beginning of the first season, Elf leaves his homeland of Elfwood in search of a better and sadder life, but in the middle of the season, Elfo is killed by an unknown knight after returning to Elfwood to ask the elves for help. In the second part, Bean and Luci are able to communicate with Elf and tell him to go down to Hell so they can find him and bring him back to life. Their attempts are successful and Elf's soul is returned to his body.

Later in the season, Elf meets the legendary Leavo elf and nearly kills him due to his magical blood, able to bring the inhabitants of the Dreamland kingdom back to life after Queen Dagmar had turned them all to stone, but Elf decides that it is not right to kill Leavo and instead Leavo helps him to convince the elves in Elfwood to donate their blood. In the first season episode “The Electric Princess”, Elfo becomes Luci's roommate. At the end of the first season, Elfo is sentenced to death after being Bean's lawyer during his trial, but falls to the ground in the Catacombs just before being burned at the stake and meets former Queen Dagmar.

Lights

Lucille (voiced by Eric André), also known as Luci, is Bean's "personal demon", as he defines himself. He was sent from the mysterious kingdom of Maru, as revealed in the second part, and develops a close friendship with both Elf and Bean, even going so far as to sacrifice his immortality to betray his fellow demons and save Elfo, who died in the first. part. Luci is often seen smoking and making witty comments and insults as well as eating whole dead birds.

Luci was sent by Maru by Emperor Cloyd and his sister Rebecca to spy on Bean and bribe her to be willing to go with Dagmar and become the new queen of Maru, but Luci gets close to Bean and Elf, developing a really deep friendship with them, and even leaves Maru for them.

At the end of the third part, Luci is beheaded by a secret elevator in Dreamland and ends up in Heaven, where he is greeted by God and Jerry.

King Zøg

Zøg (voiced by John DiMaggio) is the overweight and annoying king of Dreamland and father of Bean and Derek. He first married Queen Dagmar, a "daughter of a noble from a distant kingdom" and had Bean, until Dagmar died and Zøg remarried Oona, a reptile from Dankmire, and had Derek, Bean's half-brother.

At the end of the first part, after Zøg is betrayed by Dagmar, the whole kingdom of Dreamland is turned to stone. When Bean returns to the kingdom, Zøg thinks she was working with Dagmar, but Bean saves him and convinces him that she too has been taken aback. In the second part, Zøg also befriends Prince Merkimer. After divorcing Oona, Zøg dates a half-bear, half-female selkie, is robbed by a troupe of circus elves who turn out to be trolls, and even tries to get Gout to impress a king from a distant kingdom. After being buried alive in Season XNUMX, Zøg goes mentally insane and, after a series of temporary fixes, Chazzzzz takes him to Twinkletown Insane Asylum at the end of the part.

Queen Oona

Oona (voiced by Tress MacNeille), is Zøg's second wife and the queen of Dreamland during the first season. Oona is Darkmirian, a race of humanoid reptiles, and doesn't know much about humans. In episode six, "Swamp and Circumstance", Bean, Elfo, Luci and the rest of the Dreamland team visit Oona's hometown of Dankmire, where Oona was the class clown at school, and, in an effort to be nice, they end up being disrespectful and are chased out of the city gates by the leaders of the country. Zøg also believes that Oona is the cause of Dreamland's fall at the end of the first part in Dagmar's place.

In the second season, Oona has a smaller part and, after being thrown into the ocean by Dagmar who wants her dead, she tries to warn Bean of Dagmar's betrayal. Bean doesn't hear her, and Oona is instead picked up by a gang of pirates led by the famous elf Leavo, who left Elfwood before Elf and never returned. Oona convinces the pirates on the ship to be brave and actually raid other ships, and upon her return to Dreamland, she promptly divorces Zøg and sets off to captain the pirates in Leavo's absence when she decides to live in Elf Alley with the other elves. Oona returns in Season XNUMX for Derek's wedding, which is ultimately canceled, and later helps Bean uncover the terrible secret about Odval's company.

Bonnie Prince Derek

Derek (voiced by MacNeille) is Zøg's second child and Oona's first child. He's a mix of Dankmirian and Dreamlander, and he often admires his older half-sister Bean, who pushes him back, finding him annoying. Derek has a recurring nightmare about a growing pan due to the fact that in episode six, "Swamp and Circumstances" was almost cooked to be fed to the swamp monster. At the end of the first season, fearing Oona's wrath, Zøg locks Derek in the highest tower of the castle to keep him safe, but then forgets about him until a few episodes later in the season, in "The Very Thing", after that Oona and Zøg get divorced, then they realize that Derek has been locked up in the tower all this time. They save him and tell them about their divorce, and he takes it pretty well.

Later, towards the end of the season, Derek feels particularly impressed by Bean, and when he asks if he can accompany her to the pub, she says no. Derek runs to the beach and finds a little octopus he calls Slimy, and when he shows it to Elfo, with whom he befriends, Slimy has become a giant monster. Slimy takes Derek captive, but Bean is able to save him, revealing that she cares about him. However, Bean's confession doesn't make it any harder to sentence Bean to death after shooting Zøg and making Derek de facto king in his stead, even though the shooting was an accident.

Pendergast

Pendergast (voiced by André) is the chief knight of Dreamland. Pendergast appears in both seasons of the show and is one of the first Dreamlanders Dagmar turns to at the end of the first part, but is mistaken by Luci for a statue. Before and after being revived, Pendergast is portrayed as a weak knight trying to be manly. In the third part, Pendergast is tasked with guarding King Zøg from Odval and the Archdruid to make sure his bullet wound doesn't heal, and to kill him if he does, but Pendergast reveals that he looks to Zøg as a father. and betrays his employers to help Zøg escape from the castle in a coffin. However, he is killed by the Archdruidess and beheaded, further worsening Zøg's condition as he slowly goes mad.

History

Set in the fictional medieval European patriarchal realm of Dreamland, the series follows the story of Bean, a rebellious, alcoholic, adventurous, kind, selfless and fearless princess, her naive Elf companion and her destructive but caring "personal demon" Luci.

”A princess, an elf and a demon walk into a bar

Princess Tiabeanie "Bean" is the rough princess of Dreamland, sadly destined to marry Prince Guysbert, son of the incestuous king and queen of Bentwood. Looking through his wedding gifts, Bean finds a demon named Luci who was sent by two dark wizards in hopes of turning Bean into evil. Luci ends up being a fun-loving troublemaker who sympathizes with Bean's plight, as she feels the marriage is simply a grab for more power from her father, King Zøg. Meanwhile, Elfo, an optimistic elf, disillusioned with his happy candy life, leaves the elf kingdom much to the dismay of his people. Elf arrives in time to witness Bean reject Guysbert who unfortunately stabs himself with a sword. Bean, Elf and Luci escape as Prince Merkimer, who is next in line to marry Bean, and his men chase her.

For whom the Pig Oinks

Bean, Elf and Luci are "saved" by Merkimer who brings them back to Dreamland. Elf is greeted by Sorcerio who wants to use his blood to create more magic and so Zøg can obtain the elixir of life. At Luci's suggestion, Bean approaches Merkimer with the idea of organizing a bachelor party before the wedding. He also discovers Zøg and Sorcerio's plan to drain Elfo of his blood so that they use pig's blood to trick them. At the bachelor party, the entire crew travels to the island of mermaids in the hope that Merkimer will be killed by the mermaids. Instead he is captured by the walruses who save them from the murderous Borc, although they turn out to be the Bozak allies. Bean eventually loses hope; however, a thirsty Merkimer discovers "elf blood" which is mainly pig's blood and Elf convinces him to drink it by turning him into a pig. Bean, fed up, denounces the marriage and Zøg finally agrees with his daughter. This upsets the king of Bentwood and he and Zøg work things out in a fist fight with Bean, Elf and Luci looking happy.

The princess of darkness

While under the influence of Queen Oona's snake root, Bean, Elf and Luci come across a band of gender-aware thieves who convince Bean to join them. At Luci's request, Bean breaks into his ancestors' resting place and steals their valuables, but the thieves betray them and are captured. At the suggestion of Odval, the vizier of Zøg, they decide to hire an exorcist named Big Jo to remove a demon from Bean, unaware that Luci, who everyone thinks is a cat, is Bean's personal demon. Big Jo manages to seal Luci and leaves. While Bean feels clean and at peace with herself, Elf convinces her that they need to get Luci back and know that he, along with many other demons, will be thrown into a volcano. Bean and Elf return to the thieves taking their valuables and manage to reach Big Jo which they end up dismembering and throwing into the volcano. When they successfully free Luci, Elf accidentally rolls Big Jo's carriage down the crashing mountain and frees all the other demons in the world.

Massacre of the party at the castle

Due to her status as a princess and her reputation, Bean is frustrated that she can't have a real relationship with anyone. Zøg ends up drinking poisoned fountain water and is taken by Oona to her people's spa, where an employee named Chazzzzz begins torturing Zøg with her stories. Meanwhile, the inhabitants of the castle throw a party. While Bean tries to use him to meet someone, Elfo wants to use the opportunity to tell her about his true feelings. The party is suddenly overrun by the Vikings where their leader, Sven, ends up catching Bean's interest, angering Elfo. When Bean and Sven are about to make out, Elf interrupts them and accidentally reveals that Bean is the princess. Sven then reveals his true intent to conquer Dreamland and have Bean by his side. The trio deceives Sven by making him drink the poisoned fountain and getting rid of him and his Vikings. They manage to clean up the party in time for Zøg's arrival, but find severed body parts in the chimney that angers him. Bean, Elfo and Luci calmly watch the sunrise together.

After the party, Zøg sends Bean to a convent to become a nun. She is immediately expelled and Zøg insults her for being "good for nothing". She meets up with her maid Bunty, her husband Stan and their numerous children. To earn a living, Bean decides to take a job as an apprentice for Stan, who is an executioner and torturer. Elfo stays with Bunty who rocks him so much that he escapes into the woods. Bean meets a giggling witch named Gwen who he sympathizes with. When the time comes to execute her, Bean fails to do so and leaves the kingdom. She and Luci find Elf's footprints as he runs into the woods and follow them, where they discover he has entered a candy house that is now owned by a cannibal Hansel and Gretel. Bean and Luci arrive in time to save Elfo and Bean ends up killing the brothers with a candy ax, albeit in self-defense. Gwen is suddenly healed of a curse and leaves pardoned. Zøg tells Bean that he is proud of her, even though she threatens to kill him if he keeps making fun of her bunny teeth.

Bean escapes once again with Elf and Luci for more debauchery. Feeling he doesn't give Bean enough to do, Zøg decides to make her ambassador while the family travels to Dankmire, the homeland of Oona and her son Derek. When they arrive, the group suffers the customs of the Dankmiri who for years have been at war with the Dreamlanders over a canal that has been built (which the Dankmiris have been forced to pay for). Both sides claimed ownership of the canal and the fighting stopped once Zøg married Oona. Impressed that Bean is handling the situation, Zøg asks her to give a speech at a banquet. Overwhelmed by the stress of thinking about what to say, Luci taps Bean's drink and she shows up drunk at the banquet where she humiliates herself and her family and offends the Dankmiris who drive them from their land. Oona manages to return safe and sound, but Zøg and Derek are captured by the highlanders and Bean, Elfo and Luci save them. Zøg finally admits he is proud of Bean and allows her to go to Hay Man, an event he initially prevented her from attending.

The part begins with Princess Tiabeanie "Bean" preparing for an arranged marriage arranged by her father to forge an alliance with a kingdom called Bentwood. But the marriage goes wrong when Bean rejects the ring and accidentally kills the groom, thanks to a demon named Luci who got her drunk but Zøg, Bean's father promptly chooses another groom who is Guysbert's younger brother. After an elf named Elf gets fed up with his happy life in a kingdom called Elfwood and leaves, he stumbles upon the group and the newly formed trio enters a forest far from Dreamland to escape Merkimer, Guysbert's younger brother. . Bean, Elf and Luci then meet a fairy they think will grant their wishes. But the fairy says they must find the Wishmater in order to guarantee their wishes, but apparently the latter turns out to be a washerman called the Washmaster. The trio is soon found by Merkimer and is about to be captured but Bean, at the suggestion of Elf, escapes his spouse by falling off a cliff, but they are captured after falling into the forest floor. While waiting for his wedding, Bean decides to organize a bachelor party, on a barge bound for Sirens Island to be mesmerized by the sirens and drown, but the plan quickly fails when Merkimer survives and saves them from an attack by a tribe of barbarians called Borcs, later turned out to be Dreamland's ally called Bozaks. After returning to Dreamland, Bean is now forced by her father to complete the union with sadness, but to her great joy she was interrupted due to Merkmier drinking a mix of pig and elf blood resulting in her permanent transformation. in a pig. After this, Bean and his friends have numerous comic adventures, which include an encounter with an exorcist hired by Zøg to get rid of Luci, having a private party while fighting the Vikings, saving Elf from being eaten by a cannibal Hansel and Gretel, Bean who becomes an ambassador on a royal journey and the group along with Zøg and his younger half-brother Derek are nearly eaten by a swamp monster and Elf hides his feelings for Bean by pretending to have a crush on a female giant, while Zøg tries to unravel the mysteries of the elixir of life by doing some unethical experiments on Elfo. At the end of the series, Zøg begins to get fed up with the repeatedly failed experiments until his advisor Odval reveals that he needs a key ingredient to make the elixir work, a vial called the Pendant of Eternity. Around the same time, Elfo is kidnapped during a parade and Zøg decides to send Bean, Luci, and the knights in search of Elf and the vial. During their journey, the group meets the now retired fifth episode sorceress in Fire Lake. She directs Bean and Luci to a high mountain where her ex-husband Malfus now lives. Malfus later recounts that he threw the vial from the edge of the world and directs them there only to find a griffin who says he doesn't have the vial. The group is then captured by the exorcist Big Jo from episode three who is revealed to be Elfo's kidnapper. Big Jo later takes the trio to the now ruined city of Cremorra. When they enter the throne room, Elf senses the magic of the vial and directs Bean and Luci to the throne where Luci enters the mouth of the now petrified Mouth of King Doris and finds the vial. Elf and Luci manage to escape from Big Jo but Bean has a little fight with him but eventually escapes him. The group later returns to Dreamland with the help of the griffin from the edge of the world. After the long flight at sea, the trio returns to the city. After their return, Zøg tries to complete the immortality spell until one of his captives discovers that Elf is not a real elf and Zøg decides to banish him but Bean and Luci follow him to cheer him up. After camping out in a forest clearing for the night, they decide to visit Elfwood by passing through a hidden drawbridge. As Bean and Luci mingle with the elves, Elf asks his father, Pops to tell him what it is and the latter reveals that Elf is half-elf and shows him an Elf parent diagram but while Elf is almost explaining the part where his mother is dragged in, a group of knights attack Elfwood. The elves are able to repel them, but just as Bean, Elf and Luci reach the outside of Elfwood they discover that a whole army of knights is waiting for them. Bean tries to ask the army to leave but the commander, Odval will not go unless he captures the elves for Zøg completes the spell with real elf blood so Bean tries to close the drawbridge and he succeeds but the victory is to short duration when Elf is mortally wounded by an arrow and dies. Bean later gets mad at her father and says how cruel he was to her, so Zøg, saddened by Elf's death, reveals that he intended to use the elixir on Bean's mother, Dagmar, who died of petrification 15 years ago. Bean, is saddened by this revelation, but later finds a drop of true elven blood in her tissues and with a heavy heart she casts the spell on her mother rather than Elf. After his resurrection, Dagmar is in a confused state, but later hugs his daughter with joy. Bean later introduces Dagmar to Zøg, much to his delight and later decides to host a banquet. During the party, Oona enters and sees Dagmar making her jealous. Some time later, Bean, his family, Luci, and the townspeople attend a funeral in Elf's honor, but after Bean finishes his eulogy, Oona and Dagmar begin dueling until Bean saves his mother and punishes Oona for the disrespect her and Oona leaves angry. Later that evening, Bean starts to find petrified statues of various villagers and the council gathers together with Zøg and Dagmar and they decide that Oona could be the cause of this, so the family splits up with Zøg and Odval in search of Oona while Dagmar protects Bean in a hidden attic. Zøg later meets Luci, who wants to show him something he has discovered, after entering the room Luci reveals that the ancient crystal ball has the ability to reproduce scenes from the past. Later, Zøg discovers that Dagmar was the one who put the petrifaction potion into the wine, leaving him furious and confronts Dagmar who says it is their daughter's fate to end a 100 year long war that has been going on a long time. he does and kicks coldly. him down the stairs. While Zøg is incapacitated, Dagmar has created the Petrifaction Potion thus petrifying all the people of Dreamland except Zøg, Derek, Bean, Vip, Vap and Luci who is mysteriously captured.

Just then, Oona sneaks onto the boat and tries to warn Bean of Dagmar's true nature, but is thwarted by Dagmar and thrown away, but not before grabbing the Pendant of Eternity. Subsequently, the ship reaches its destination, the kingdom of Maru. After leaving the ship, Bean meets his uncle and aunt who are Dagmar's brothers. After dinner, Bean stumbles upon a forbidden chamber where he finds a shrine of bleeding severed arms and an image depicting a dark prophecy. Which sees her become the future queen of Maru as she pays the debt her Maruvian ancestors made to obtain the magic of a petrifaction potion that destroyed the once prosperous kingdom of Cremorra but accidentally placed a curse on them and this fate will show her how to stop. He soon tries to tell his mother what he saw, but when he shows the shrine that the picture hanging above has been replaced by a painting of Bean's great-grandmother, the late Queen Mariabeanie, Dagmar ignores him. After this, Bean meets Jerry, Dagmar's younger brother who has become the caretaker of the palace. He later takes her to a room full of past Maruvian rulers as he explains the royal family's story about how the curse made them murderers and paranoid. But Jerry later says the Mariabeanie image is missing and Bean later tells him the portrait is in the forbidden room. After Jerry retrieves the painting, Bean takes a stroll around the palace until he comes across a hidden basement full of specimens stacked in cupboards, his portrait from the shrine room, a map of Dreamland, and a bottle labeled "potion of stoneification. ”Bean later approaches Dagmar in desperation, trying to get her to leave until Bean realizes Dagmar was behind it all. Dagmar lets further demands go by throwing a dress at Bean and telling her to get ready. That Bean has a greater destiny beyond her comprehension. Dagmar locks Bean in her room and leaves her knocking on the door. Bean then manages to escape from her room with the help of Jerry who tells her that Luci is trapped in the basement. After a failed ploy planned by Bean, Dagmar uses the oracle's fire to find her. Later, Bean and Luci confront Dagmar as he tries to put the ritual crown on his head, but fails. Later, Bean is about to escape but Dagmar tries to manipulate Bean but Luci, who has slipped under the door pushes the door open from the outside causing Bean to drop the candle and the room explodes due to the flooded flammable liquids. After that, he approaches the temple only to find that Jerry has died from a head injury inflicted by Dagmar, there he accidentally discovers that the oracle's fire can contact people from worlds like heaven or the underworld. After a quick call from Elf, Luci plans to go to the underworld to find Elf's soul and return to the real world where they will bring him back to life. Dagmar returns and tries to force the crown on Bean only to fail when Jerry hits her before falling to the ground. Hence, Bean later makes his descent into the underworld. As she approaches the entrance, she finds Luci helping her into the gates disguised as a demon herself. Unfortunately, the ruse doesn't last long and Bean is betrayed by Luci and is taken to a prison where she is forced to watch sad moments in her life. She later finds Elfo and is shown to watch the moment he reanimated his mother instead of him leading them into a fight and then aimlessly insulting Luci. He later sends them flying over a river of lava which takes them to the exit portal, but they are soon confronted by Luci's superior. As this happens, Zøg begins to become emotionally empty after his breakup with Oona until he discovers a magical Selkie forest named Ursula that he falls in love with until their relationship comes to an ultimatum where Zøg has to let her go and leave her. return to the forest or force her to stay here as his new wife and risk her becoming fully human. She later makes her choice, steals the bear skin which turns Ursula into a bear and takes her to an underground treasure room and hides the skin in a box. He is later found by Bean who was following the Maruvian eye carvings and ended up entering the underground caves below the castle. He tries to tell Zøg to return the bearskin and give her up, but Zøg said he has made up his mind, but when he sees how unhappy he has made Ursula he returns the bearskin to her and says goodbye. Meanwhile, Bean follows the carvings and ends up in deeper caves under the castle dungeons until he ends up in a cave and his torch goes out and the melody of the music plays again and Bean screams.
