The 20-minute VR film, which recently took home the animation jury's first prize as one of the Raindance Film Festival's engaging official selections, goes beyond traditional narrative virtual reality, including magical moments of interactivity via hand-tracking. in virtual reality.

"Why Paper Birds part 1 is based on music, we were inspired to use Oculus Quest's most cutting edge new feature, hand tracking, to bring audiences into a world where they can see and even paint with music, ”says the writer / the director Heller, who is also CEO of 3DAR. “We encourage users to interact with the story in ways that the reason you participate is not solving a puzzle or defeating a challenger. We want to take you deeper into the story, to create a stronger empathy with the characters, using the best of what virtual reality can offer “.

The film also features a tactile world that hopes to push the boundaries of what animation can be like.

“The whole universe of Paper birds it is not only miniaturized, but handcrafted to give the impression that every single element has been uniquely shaped, sculpted and painted by craftsmen, so much so that you want to reach out and touch them, "says Baobab Studios content manager, Kane Lee. "It's a testament to filmmakers and we are so proud to have German and Federico as part of our growing family of storytellers with singular visions with which we can build completely original characters and worlds."
