Borgman 2030, the anime series of 1988

Borgmann 2030 (original title: 超 音 戦 士 ボ ー グ マ ン,Choon senshi Boguman, translatable as "Borgman, the supersonic warrior") is a Japanese animated science fiction series (anime) that aired on Nippon Television from April 13 to December 21, 1988. The series is about a three-member Super Sentai-like team fighting an organization known as the GIL Crime Organization, originally from the demon world. The three main characters are: Chuck, Ryo and Anice. Ryo is the leader, while Chuck and Anice are teachers in a public school. Sometimes, students tend to somehow help or cause trouble for the Borgmen, and some even know their secret identities. Ryo has a talking "modern" blue motorcycle that can upgrade itself. The team's transformation code is "Borg, Get On". Each member has a personal cannon that matches their armor color that appears only to finish off the monster they fight. Two films were also released, an OVA miniseries and a video game, respectively in 1989, 1990 and 1993.

History

In 1999 four "demon stones" fell in Tokyo and destroyed the capital. Thirty-one years later, in 2030, a new city called Megalo City, built on Tokyo Bay, sees invaders from a different dimension known as the GIL. Their aim was to complete the fifth demon stone and resurrect their demon king to take over the world. Just when everyone thought that humanity was on the verge of destruction, three people armed in the “Balector” suits stood up and reacted against the criminal organization. They are cyborg warriors known as the "Borgman".

Characters

Ryo Hibiki (響 リ ョ ウ) - Date of birth: September 22, 2013 (Virgo); height: 177 cm; weight: 65 kg

Together with Chuck, Ryo is one of the only two surviving cyborgs of the Borgman project, which he had voluntarily joined (thus giving his full consent to the transformation into a cyborg) to fulfill his dream of becoming an astronaut.

His own dream and his companions die the day the Yoma attack Megalocity. Main reason why he decides to use his cybernetic body to fight the invaders from another dimension.

Of the three Borgmans, he is the one who wears the blue baltector. The one specialized in close combat, hand-to-hand combat, and certainly the one who has the greatest skills and power, comparable to those of the very strong Dust Jead, the combat cyborg in the service of the Yoma. So much so that he is the only one who can fight on an equal footing with him. This, coupled with his heightened charisma, tacitly makes him the leader of the trio. On the other hand, his great generosity and his pride sometimes lead to an excessive impulsiveness that risks costing him dearly.

In the course of the series, a certain interest in Anice seems to develop, even if the development of their relationship will remain only hinted at in the TV series, only to be resumed and deepened in the OAVs: starting from the video of Forever di Madnight Gigs, as well as in Last battle and especially in Lovers Rain.

Chuck Sweagger (チ ャ ッ ク ・ ス ェ ー ガ ー) - Date of birth: October 20, 2012 (Libra); height: 185 cm; weight: 80 kg

Chuck, like Ryo, had voluntarily joined the Borgman project and accepted the conversion into a cyborg to fulfill his dream of becoming an astronaut. The main reason why he had decided to leave the United States, of which he is originally from, for Japan.

He too, like Ryo, saw his companions and his dream die that damned day when the Yoma invaded Megalocity. And like his only surviving companion, to whom a strong bond of friendship inevitably binds him, he has decided to use his cyborg abilities to fight the Yoma.

He is the Borgman with the green baltector, specializing in ranged combat and heavy artillery. Compared to Ryo, he is more thoughtful and a lot less impulsive. Charming and good-looking, and aware of it, thanks also to his excellent character and sympathy, he will break into the heart of Miki Katsura, commander of the Phantom Swat.

It is also thanks to this bond that it will be possible to smooth out, at least in part, the contrasts and differences between Sonic Team and Phantom Swat.

Anise Farm (ア ニ ス ・ フ ァ ー ム) - Date of birth: February 5, 2014 (Aquarius); height: 164 cm; weight: 47 kg

Originally from the United States and the only woman in the trio, the story of Anice and how she became a Borgman is decidedly different and, in a sense, even more tragic than that of Ryo and Chuck. If only because, unlike her two battle mates, Anice is the only Borgman to have been transformed into a cyborg without his express consent, even if this was done with the sole purpose of saving her life.

In fact, the day the Yoma attacked Megalocity, Anice was accompanying the schoolchildren she taught on a visit to the space district of the city. Badly injured, she is rescued by Memory and Professor Fritz Riddle. And from them, while they are carrying her to the operating room in a desperate attempt to save her life hanging by a thread, Anice learns that all of her students are dead. Memory and Riddle realize that Anise's condition is so critical that the only way to save her is to implant the last remaining cyber-system of the Borgman project into her body, despite the risks that this would entail, given that that system was not designed specifically for Anice's body, so she may not have total control of the cyborg system implanted into her.

However, the operation was successful and Anice recovered perfectly in a short time. Accepting her new status as a cyborg, and aware of what the cyber-system now implanted in her body was created for, Anice asks Memory to allow her to join the other surviving Borgmans to fight the Yoma, and thus avenge her students. died on the day of the attack.

Of the Sonic Team, she is the one who wears the pink baltector, created expressly to amplify her enormous hearing and visual abilities, far superior to the other two Borgmans. This makes it particularly suitable for gathering information and warning of dangers before others. But Anice knows how to juggle equally well in battle, despite her physical strength is decidedly lower than that of her two companions. To this she combines a sunny and positive character, which often places her in the role of glue of the group.

Over the course of the series it becomes apparent that Anice's interest in Ryo goes beyond mere friendship. She can be seen from small gestures, as from some situations in which Anice clearly shows a kind of jealousy towards the boy. However, her relationship with Ryo is only hinted at in the TV series, only to be developed and deepened in the OAVs.

Memory Gene (メ モ リ ー ・ ジ ー ン) - Date of birth: November 19, 2007 (Scorpio)

Memory Gene

Scientist and doctor of excellent talent and intelligence, she was one of the coordinators of the Borgman project and the only living human being, besides Professor Fritz Riddle, who knew how to transform a human being into a cyborg.

After the failure of the Borgman project, in which he also lost his beloved younger brother Reminis to a laboratory accident, he built the Psysonic School, with the specific intent of creating a safe place for the children of the city, in order to defend their lives. in case of Yoma attack.

Her figure within the Sonic Team is fundamental: she is in fact the one to create the baltectors, fundamental in the fight against the Yoma, and to design and optimize all the weapons and vehicles that support the Borgmans in their battles. And she obviously takes care of them also from a purely medical point of view.

The character, both in his character and psychological peculiarities, and in his personal history, is gradually taking shape and revealing himself better and better over the course of the episodes. Up to understand that what drives her to fight the Yoma is not only a desire for revenge, but also a certain sense of guilt, as it was precisely because of the studies relating to the Borgman project that the Yoma definitively came into contact with the human world.
