In the UK, Walt Disney Co. will make their Disney + streaming platform the only way to access their content. The drastic decision came after the media giant failed to reach a new agreement with British pay-TV operators Sky and Virgin Media.
Disney + debuted in March, several months after launching in November 2019 in the US. Online children's channels Disney Channel, Disney Junior and Disney XD will be closed, while National Geographic and FOX continue to be streamed.
"Starting October 1, Disney + will become the exclusive home for Disney Channel, DisneyXD and Disney Junior UK content," said a spokesperson, adding: "The Walt Disney Company remains committed to our channel business for children "and plans to" execute distribution agreements for Disney channels in many markets where Disney + is also available ".
Disney Channel UK hosts original animated series such as 101 Dalmatian Street, a UK-Canada co-production (Passion Pictures, Atomic Cartoons) which premiered in the middle in 2019, as well as popular toons acquired as Miraculous - The stories of Ladybug and Chat Noir, Go unicorn!, Sadie and Gilbert e Best Bugs Forever.
Disney Junior in the UK includes the animated series for children of Henry Little monsters e Claude, with offers purchased by Disney Junior in the United States and others like Paprika and Bluey.
Disney XD's UK channel hosts imported favorites, including The Greens in town, DuckTales, Star vs. the Forces of Evil e Star Wars Resistance, among others.
Mickey TV colleagues will also soon greet David Levine, the vice president of children's programming for the UK, Europe and Africa, who will leave the company in June after 16 years in the business.
