Production

Yūzō Aoki, had experience with Lupin's previous anime series, playing the role of key animator and storyboard artist. In this series he designed the characters and worked as an animation supervisor. Aoki proposed three character designs for Lupine in this series. A tough Lupine, a soft Lupine and a comic Lupine. His aim was to make between the gritty style of Masaaki Osumi and the familiar tone of Isao Takahata and Hayao Miyazaki

Towards the second half of the series, the production team revised the initial character designs to allow for a more cartoonish and expressive look, with the goal, in Aoki's words, to achieve a "simple but satisfying result".

Different animation teams involved, in addition to the decision to have three character designs for Lupine, the designs and overall look of the show tended to differ greatly from episode to episode.

Even within the same episode, Aoki's deliberate decision allowed the animators to express a wide range of creativity.

The music for the series, including the opening and closing themes, was written by Yuji Ohno. The opening theme "Sexy Adventure" was performed by Yūsuke Nakamura and the closing theme "Fairy Night" was performed by Sonia Rosa
